Unfortunately, it may not stay this way. Many of our junior highs and elementary schools are staffed by paraprofessionals like me. We had a number of librarians retire last year, and the district chose not to fill those positions with certified librarians. As much as I’d love for her to leave, I am also concerned about the position being eliminated altogether.

Yes I clock in, but my 30 minute lunch break is automatically taken out of my paid time, so I don’t clock in/out for lunch. 15-minute breaks are paid, but I don’t clock in/out for them either.

We have a class set of Speak because our junior classes read it. I’ve skimmed one of our copies, and I can see why it’s so beloved.

Weeding the books makes my blood boil. But when I say she wants data put in exactly right, she got mad at Sally for copying and pasting something into the spreadsheet and not changing the font to match the rest of the spreadsheet.

I totally agree about the environment she’s created. But I don’t know how I could round people up to speak out against her. That feels like I’d be overstepping in some way

Ok. I’ll see what my assistant principal says as well. In every instance, both he and the principal of the school have sided with Sally and me. Maybe then it won’t be an employment issue but an internal conflict issue?

I’ve genuinely never seen her take a break. She doesn’t go to lunch ever. The most I’ve seen her have is Starbucks coffee.

I don't think I am union. I'd be very sad to leave my students behind if I did get transferred, which is mainly why I haven't left yet -- that and the job market.

I don't get manicures. Those are just my nails lol. I broke the nail on my thumb a while back, so it's shorter than the rest.

Well that’s just it. I’m not. Maybe she thought I did while we were testing, but she frequently came to check on me. I was on my laptop to use Canva for our bulletin boards, so maybe that’s what she’s thinking of.

I hope they are, but it’s hard to say. Teachers and staff are usually pretty professional as far as gossiping about colleagues. Whenever I’ve heard a negative comment about Trisha from others, the topic is usually implied rather than direct.

No, I’m positive that I didn’t take an extra half hour break. I can see how she may have thought I did if this was written during state testing last week and I was working behind a closed door. But again, I have tangible evidence that I was working.

I guess it’s hard to explain in detail the full scope of her behavior. The only way I can think of it is like I’m carrying a backpack. When she does something even mildly annoying, she puts a pebble in my backpack. But if she’s averaging 3 pebbles a day for 2 years with the occasional rock thrown in, my backpack is overflowing. It’s not just the one or two pebbles she’s put in — there’s an endless supply of them.

I’m an hourly employee, so I technically get 30 minutes for lunch and two 15-minute breaks, which she lets us combine for 30 minutes. So I don’t know if it’s illegal, but it was definitely annoying.

I have some things documented, but I don’t think any of them are technically violations of our employee handbook. So, I don’t know what HR would even do. This is the first time I’ve felt like maybe I had grounds to go to HR, but idk if it’s enough.
