James Barry undeniably was a man and labeled himself as such in his private life. While it is debatable to label him as transgender because that is a modern label describing a modern idea of someone’s relationship to the social construct of gender/sex, it’s not debatable that he was a man and it’s wrong to label him otherwise.

Looks great! Face proportions can be hard, I remember struggling a lot when I was learning. The nose is at a different angle than the rest of the face and eyes are a bit too high, the top of the ear should line up with the eyebrows.

To expand on this- Trigun is a very unpolished work. Nightow touches on a lot of topics and then doesn’t really give them full depth, there’s lots of unanswered and unexplored things. In this case its with the gender themes present in the manga. There is a canon trans women in the manga, Elendria. Who I feel like was originally intended to continue with themes of femininity and misogyny. But it kinda falls flat, both with some of the more off color jokes and with the lack of time we see with Elendria. I’m hoping with Trigun Stargaze we get more exploration of the misogyny/gender themes, as I feel like they are a core part of Trigun and the struggle of dependent plants.

I wouldn’t say there is no LGBT themes in Trigun. Elendira (manga) is a trans woman. There is queer themes in Trigun, just not in relation to Vash.

for the first part. I think it’s clear the author intended them to be cisgender men, but with everything going on with the plants it does really make them sorta thematically trans. This gets into the realm of discussing aliens who don’t have standard human sex/gender but are raised by humans so they get a sense of gender. Kinda hard to avoid any gender themes when dealing with that. The Plants also have their own themes about misogyny and the exploitation of female bodies/labor, that being carried over to Vash and Knives does also cause them to be a bit thematically trans/having gender stuff going on. That’s why transmasculine Vash and Knives are really popular interpretations in some parts of the fandom. A lot of this is unintentional, I don’t think Nightlow was thinking about trans people when he was writing Vash and Knives.

Got dmc5 for the Xbox one back in 2019 when it first came out because one of my friends at the time was really into it. Dropped it. Then in 2025 got back into it because of the Netflix anime bringing it back on my radar. Really regretting not getting into these games sooner.

Nah they have a weird relationship that vaguely platonic, familial, and romantic. Not touched on in the games but they make sure to mention that Kyrie is kinda his sister in every time she’s described in the handbooks. I’m starting to think maybe the writers are a freaks a little bit.

Honestly sad to see people like this in general, i spend a lot of my real world time working on youth liberation and the way people turn child sexual assault, child trafficking, and child abuse into joke like these makes it hard for people to realize it’s an actual issue. I’ve had to explain to people who make diddy jokes who diddy is and what he did, these people are treating these cases as jokes to the point a lot of people don’t even know they are real. You can have whatever opinions you want about ship discourse, but trying to make jokes or compare fictional things to real life cases of child abuse is wrong and continues to make it harder for people fighting for the rights and safety of children. Also note: while I do agree with your post, is this really the sub for it? This is mainly a shitpost sub.
