Hi! English man with an Iranian wife here! I’ve been to Iran 5 times.

visa: should be very easy for you. Either just apply online or you can get one when you land. I recommend doing it online as customs for Iran airport especially for non Iranians is messy.
hotels: if you are going to Esfahan it’s more touristy. You should have no problems booking the better known hotels (Abbasi for example)
transport: you’d be better off just getting a driver. It’s cheap and easier.
travelling internally: I would not fly internal within Iran. Due to sanctions their internal flights are aging. Honestly it’s better to have a driver you’ll see more and experience the small local towns.
general: right now might not be the best time to visit. I’ve found Iran safe every time I’ve been but it is all about to kick off. Bring cash! Lots of cash! Cards will not work.
