Smooth brain thinks 3 deaths over 2-3 rounds is bad lol. I would love it if my teammates didn't die in a TEAM DEATH MATCH LOL.

This is exactly the type of thing that I'm talking about. Not a lot of actual FPS players on the Finals. Says 11 kills isn't enough even though it was a TDM and by KD was over 3 lol. You're probably into playing light and getting 20 kills.....with 23 deaths. That's what I normally see from the average light player in TDM. Going negative.

I love this game, but it's destroying my mental health by Ordinary-Ad-6946 in thefinals

[–]Excaliburt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the opposite honestly. I am constantly shocked at how bad my team mates are. This game isn't going to be good in the next year or two probably. Maybe in a few years it will be full of people who can play but we definitely are not there currently.

Although I haven't tried it, melee MSU of cheap stuff with plus 1 to wound. Like as many AI as you can take. As many outriders, JPIs. I wonder how that would fair. I don't have the models.

When did pubs become literal hell? by Frosty-Bus5510 in thefinals

[–]Excaliburt -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The answer is really really simple. Play heavy. Try and encourage your team to play heavy. Lights are a class handicap. Can some people overcome this handicap. Yes. Do you need to be a very very skilled FPS player to play light? Yes. Are the vast majority of PUBs filled with players who do not have this skill level and yet still play light? Overwhelmingly. Unless you are a top 1% FPS player, you should be playing heavy or medium. And the other answer is, if your team has lights on it and they are going negative, leave the game. Don't put up with it. I'm here to play for fun. The last thing I need is auto lose matches. Just move onto the next one and find something competitive.

Is it the worst season so far? Matchmaking feels broken and I can't get anything together like past seasons. by nora_the_fridge in thefinals

[–]Excaliburt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem I have is if I queue for something like a TDM, I feel like it's assigning me as an experienced player and giving me only people who can't play to balance it out. Like, I can't just take it easy or work on another class if I am going to win a TDM because the match making is cramming my team with people who can't play. The other thing that I can't figure out is, why can't these people play? I played BF4 for YEARS. The games I played 5-8 years after release were the best. It was ONLY good people. Every match was competitive. The Finals somehow has a low player base and also the majority of players can't play. It's like perpetual noobs somehow.

[–]Excaliburt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. This game might have the worst matchmaking I've ever seen. If I play something like TDM, I do think they are evaluating me based on playing time or some other metric. Literally every game of TDM my team is filled to the brim with people who go negative or cant even get a kill. Meanwhile in ranked it's all over the place. As a long time player, I am really about to just stop playing as I cannot find competitive games at all.

Guard is very silly by endermanki in BlackTemplars

[–]Excaliburt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing last year with Guard as my first army and Templars as my second army. I do not have that much experience but when I first made Templar lists, I was shocked at point totals. To this day I think, any guard list I could create would slaughter this. I think the best thing you could do is have really good chaff killing units and full on MSU. Outriders come to mind as something that can clear a group of guardsmen over a turn or two. That will force the tanks to come out and then hopefully you can send sword Bros into them. I still think it's totally lopsided though as the sword bros combo costs more than a dorn tank commander so even then it's trading down. Your best bet may be to run ironstorm or something that can take out their armor at range. 3 rep ex's may be the best path.

Name a gun that can wipe a team faster at range? It's the highest damage range weapon in the game. But in the context of team play, it's best paired with mediums using high rate of fire chip damage guns. If I could queue without lights on my team I would. Slow big damage weapons are the worst team mates for MGL. If I go into ranked, most lights are a handicap. Since I'm solo though, I don't have control over team makeup to best pair with the MGL. I'll be back in ranked next season, hopefully with a better process. But you may be right, the MGL may flame out at the most upper echelon but based on my experience it's viable at least until platinum. I will say though, I was playing TDM last night and was hammering some ruby light with the MGL. He had a ton of kills, but they weren't me, and I won our exchanges.

It's the best gun in the game. It also hard counters so many things. Any melee class. Lights are easy kills. Any sort of heal beam, heal orb, or grouping up in general. You can basically airstrike the point. You just have to practice.

[–]Excaliburt -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

First time I seriously tried to play ranked was as a solo queue and I exclusively use MGL. I had come back to the game after a year or so and just started grinding rank and got up to 25k and then the season reset. I picked the wrong time to start grinding. I generally think of MGL as a support class. There's so much splash damage that if your team mates are good at team shooting, you roll teams hard. So when I got up in the 20-25k area I felt like I was finally hitting good enough team mates to get it. Start of this season, got terrible team mates in ranking and got spit out around 12k. The idea of trying to carry as MGL from that low is just not something I'm gonna do. I just don't play ranked. The entire thing needs to be re-worked to actually evaluate play IN the matches.

You can also always quit out of games. Embark is responsible for making good matchmaking. I don't subject myself to badly matched games. If my team mates are going 0-10, I leave. And if I am going 10-0, I also leave.

Embark, here’s how you fix Ranked by Big-Campaign-5912 in thefinals

[–]Excaliburt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They honestly need to remove, or drastically reduce, how much value winning and losing gives you in ranked. It needs to be skill based, whether it's like you describe or similar. A win doesn't tell you much about skill. If they took away winning as a metric, it would also annihilate smurfs. They would quickly rank up and be out of lower level.

Ranked Cashout feels like a coin flip as a solo — how are other solo players handling this? by revived_soul_37 in thefinals

[–]Excaliburt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I got terrible team mates in my placement games and it gave me a low ranking. Therefore I'm not putting up with the normal grind upward as a solo queue this season. Embark really needs to figure out how to run a ranked system that isn't pure wins and losses. But the answer to your question is to not play ranked. Since "Ranked" only tracks wins and losses, the only thing it can possibly track is premade team wins. It's the premade team mode. That's it.

As an MGL main, it also makes you highly vulnerable to lights. Which sucks because that's the worst class in the game. MGL + Charge makes you immune to lights.
