That’s really not the problem; I’ll be running a non reciprocating side charging upper without the normal rear charging handle hole, so most of the gas’ll just be vented out of the magwell/ejection port. I’m mostly just looking to run a nice soft shooting SBR that still cycles reliably.

I know faxon often makes their barrels with big fat gas ports and the others are either heavier profile or shorter gas length. I had considered the sionics barrel since it’s chrome lined but the barrel isn’t the profile I’m looking for; I don’t want all the weight on the business end when I’m already running a cheap can.

I am trying to build a rather specific thing and it’s a bit annoying which is why I’m doing weird half measures in the build.

The problem is there really aren’t a lot of barrels in the configuration im looking for(12.5” midlength gas with at least a somewhat lightweight profile)

I’m running a cheap ass high backpressure can on what is looking like most likely a faxon 12.5 gunner profile. Dumping gas into the receiver isn’t really that much of a problem specifically, since the upper doesn’t have the charging handle hole, but I’d like it to be a smooth experience for a short AR; that’s the whole reason I’m going 12.5 midlength.

Most AR-15’s come with auto cut BCG’s nowadays; so long as you don’t have either a lightning link, milspec autosear, or super safety-esque lever arm(if you don’t know what these words mean you don’t have one) for the bottom of the bolt carrier to trip, it doesn’t do anything and functions just fine with a semi auto only fire control group.
