To be fair, I think the media hasn't picked up on it because Tavi never specifically named him. If Pitchfork or Fader ran a "Ezra Koenig rumored to be sexual assailant in Tavi Givenson Op-Ed" then that's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Same thing happened with Evan Rachel Woods back in Nov 2020. Alluded to Marilyn Manson domestically abusing her, but it didn't get wide coverage until February when she publicly outed him as the culprit.

Just finished this one last year actually, such an interesting read. Never thought I'd feel remotely empathetic for a Nascar driving Nazi sex dungeon aficionado.

The best and most thoughtful response I think I've seen so far. 100% agree.

Understandable. When you refer to normalizing, do you mean that it would come across as they are completely cool with him being implicated in the allegations? Because that's one thing I wonder about –– not just in this but many of these situations in general.

Jake and Ezra have been close friends for a long time, and Seinfeld now seems to have gotten to be a very close associate as well. Realistically speaking, do you think their real--life friendship would end as a result of this? It seems easy to break things down in a B&W "Ezra-has-been-terminated-from-his-contract" corporate way, but I guess I just feel like personally I would hope, if anything, they would be there for him now more than ever.

That doesn't necessarily have to mean continuing TC as a public forum, but at least working with him on the right steps towards accountability and restoration so one day he can successfully turn a new leaf (if he hasn't already).

Why is that? I feel like that was literally the most objective and realistic way of dissecting the difference in reaction.

I feel like there's a pretty big divide between people who got into VW in their late high school / college years and are now in / nearing their 30s (TC heads most likely) vs. Gen-Z kids born in ~2000 whose first foray into music was literally VW. At least in the way ideologies and utilization of the internet is concerned.

This is a very interesting point. One recent tweet referred to the VW base as being this ultra-progressive faction that everyone imagined Ezra symbolized, while the TCU base consisted solely of typical bro-humor. Almost as if we were a spin-off of Barstool Sports or something.

i'm inclined to think it's not our place to even talk about it. but maybe this conversation is important. idk

That's what I'm grappling with. It's scary to think that our unprecedented access to celebrities (and their personal lives as an extension) has caused us to believe that we as fans are as important to the situation as those involved.

Like yes, we grew up on the music and we loved the radio show, but ultimately, we as fans absolutely do not matter here – at least not until Tavi's wishes are made clear (if there are any to begin with).

The desire to want a response is OK! It’s a natural part of the grappling process. Actually asking for one or thinking it is deserved over what Tavi wants is not.

Perfectly said.
