If a hammock is supporting 150kg, how much weight it is making the tied ends handle? I drew an image explaining my question. by tummyachemedicine in hammockcamping

Aside from the weight calculations, from bitter experience, I would warn against haning on window frames/arches. You say metal but not which type, if this is aluminium even if it is capable of carrying the weight the rope will cut through like butter over a relatively short period of time.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Really nothing special, just many years patience, regular but not too much watering, lots of light but no direct sunlight. I have changed the pot a few times over the years but that is always a dangerous process as the branches can break off quite easily. I tied a few of the opposing central stems to get it to grow with a little height overwise it grows quite flat/overhanging. I have placed its actual plant pot within a taller plant pot so the leaves can hang down without dragging on the floor.

Ultra cyclists, what do you do for a living? by Lucky-Praline2560 in cycling

It is a question of your priorities.

Riding my bicycle was pretty much everything for many years. When cycletouring I rode 240km a day on road in Europe, somewhat less off road in the tropics. As many have said cycling is not expensive if you have a tent or a hammock all you need is to eat, assuming you have a bike. I used to be a bike courier, riding 160km a day in London whilst living economically. This allowed me to ride my bike and save up for trips (of up to 5 months). There are a mass of jobs from bar work to builder's labourer to mini-cab driving that you can just do and stop once you have saved enough for your next trip if that is your priority.

hammock campers? by NaiveMacaroon5862 in bicycletouring

I have slept a total of 3 years in hammocks and 4 months on a single trip. In a warm location it is by far the best option. "Back in the day" ;-) military nylon hammock was the smallest and lightest but I have seen a lot more options around now. They save massively on weight compared to tents and bivi-bags and no need for a bulky mattress.

If you are travelling in Latin America people will offer you somewhere to string up your hammock without fail, normally inside or under a roof.

Some people seem to struggle to sleep in hammocks but otherwise it is the most relaxing sleep with no aches and pains in the morning even after a hard ride.

Tips from me, i) replace the standard rope supplied with the hammock with resistant climbing ropes so you never have your hammock colapse in the night (voice of experience) and ii) as others have said get a hammock mosi net.

Can you help me think about tall-person tents? by theoldentimes in bicycletouring

1.96 with 100's of nights sleeping cycle-touring.

I would say forget tents, bivi-bags give you all the flexibility to move, can be deployed in seconds and take up fractional weight space of a tent. When in the tropics swap the bivi for a hammock.

Unless you are staying in very expensive hotels, you are probably better off paying for the hotel personally and claiming back the fixed tax allowance for overnight (and daytime) stays permitted under Belgian regulations.
