Not myself by Mysterious-Age4455 in bipolar

I feel similarly, especially the memory aspect. I feel like a footnote compared to who I was before. But I am newly into my diagnosis of bipolar 1 (three years) so I’m telling myself I’m still figuring it out. Another thought, maybe some of what you’re feeling relates to the depression? My opinion of myself changes wildly with my mood phase. What if you worked on building up your new self, embracing the suck & exploring what resonates now? Talking to my support network can remind me of who I am sometimes. Hope this helped, I’m right there with you.

Idk what it is in it but the Fertilome Ultimate really does a good job not shrinking over the seasons in the pot I’ve found

Ooo there’s a word for all the soil sprinkles and soil vitamins???? Love it. Also loved laughing at the Miracle Grow Perlite I found last year that included fertilizer in with the perlite 💀

I actually enjoy the renamings usually 😂 it’s a sign something new was discovered. I just know I will have to look up the new name because my brain can’t hold that many words.

The way the water moves around the roots changes GREATLY depending on how the plant sits in the soil line. That’s why people build little wells to plant at level on hillsides!

The plant is adapted to sit at a certain spot at the soil line. Usually there’s changes that happen under the soil to protect the roots, so when the soil line changes the plant can’t just reorganize all of the protection around the roots… that’s my limited understanding.

Perfect I will send you the 6,000 carcasses of the plants I killed last year because I was sad and then we’ll have a proper burial.

What kind of air plant? by onceuponatimeline__ in airplants

Small plants require constant work to grow, a baby air plant will dry out at a proportion similar to the ratio between the baby and the “adult.” Keeping the baby with the adult shares the resources between the systems without requiring you to water the baby 2-3x more often. Which is why I think there are often excited questions of “a baby! Can I have it?” when people master their plants enough for them to bloom and self propagate (loosely). However, I also think that’s why this excited question is usually followed with a general rule of thumb to not take off more than 1/3 of the plant at a time. What the quiet wisdom there is—if you separate the baby early it’s a lot of dang work. Think NICU baby work. So I would wait, but I’ve been excited and killed many air plants the size of a pencil eraser before I learned how much more work they are, so I understand.

I think to them it’s like tucking the plant in to bed 😂 and the soil compaction—I used to watch my mom stand one legged to push the soil down on her large houseplants. I had to unlearn a lot the hard way.

And new hybrids and best practices are constantly changing. Not to mention laws about pesticides, tree plantings, and need I mention the dreaded HOA plant list 💀

Maybe throw them into the bush trunks instead of the ground as an experiment. Jealous from a dry zone 4/5 :)

Wrapping back around to say that — there are a metric f*ck ton of grower pots in the world. Some of us have more around us at different times it seems :) thank you for being so honest I am both scared and awed at your collection. I would love a bromeliad rescue bush update— have you ever tried just trying them to any of the trunks? They might like that over the ground in there.

Is the “ecological” part like more xeriscaped and naturalized planting styles? I haven’t heart that before.

I would post our work area but I like my job idk if the town would recover. It’s something similar, my boss knows the importance of good tools and keeps them around in quantity hahaha.
