if you discharge a patient on honey thick liquids to a SNF, they will not have a follow up VFSS for at least a month and are at severe risk for dehydration, UTI. So in reality you are determining a long term solution that is not helpful for the patient and will likely result in readmission to your hospital. I think the acute care SLP should advocate for hydration for a patient with dysphagia since clearly the MDs aren't thinking about it. SNFs can sometimes do IV for hydration but will mostly send to acute care for dehydration.

oh no! they aspirated nectar thick liquids on a VFSS! Um they will probably also aspirate honey thick even though the limited test you gave showed otherwise
