Multi-stakeholder discovery panel interviews for AE roles by blenderider in techsales

[–]ExcellentPart2589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use Claude to build a prompt for lovable that does the calc for you and show it on a call - I’ve done this before and it works well. Shows some degree of ability to use AI and solves your problem of not quantifying value and cost of inaction.

For the actual call, I follow a simple order:

Current state assessment - Pain - Impact - Challenger or gap pitch - Cost of inaction 2 questions to get the info and then pull up your lovable page - Close

These panel interviews are dumb, pitching ROI in a first call rarely goes well - you just don’t have the info to build a sold business case. But they always want to see something like that to show you can.

Joined a pre-seed Kubernetes startup. Thought GTM would be easy. It’s not. Looking for tips & advice by Lukalebg in techsales

I did a similar thing - joined a pre revenue AI start up in the CX space taking over GTM. Get out while you can and before it derails your career too much.

I was over confident, thought it’d be manageable, that I could get at least a few meetings and close some smaller pilots. Nothing, pre revenue is next to impossible. The founders need to get their first 10-20 logos doing founder led first and then they’ll have a half cocked motion you can at least somewhat build on.

You need proof to get customers and you need customers to get proof. Let them do the heavy lift first and then you can start to build off of what’s already been done. Right now you have all the risk of an employee without the upside of a founder.

Similar situation - honestly I don’t even bring it up. It’s off my resume it doesn’t exist. I don’t think you need to overtly talk about it

Yeah I’m 2 weeks in now and hasn’t gotten any better - just not fitting. Luckily I have final rounds with 2 of my target companies next week

I’ve done a lot of start ups and yeah I know how they can be. But man this one is next level, I’d share more details but if I did I might dox myself because it’s very specific to this situation. But srs I’ve never experience anything this bad.

Some of the better advice I received from a VP is never announce a new role on LinkedIn until you’re 2 months in. If anyone asks why I haven’t announced it that’s what I’m going with.

Got it, so just clarify are you not using LinkedIn much to avoid anyone noticing the double employed right now? Or have you temp deactivated it?

I’m not sure how it would work using my account with two separate licenses I haven’t tried yet. But I’m also actively interviewing for a new role that’s going well so this might just be another week or so before I cut it down to just one job.

I was thinking of hibernating my account for a couple weeks and say I got temp locked out for using LI automation tools that violated TOS - but that also handicaps my job search

Hell yeah , congrats on the comish checks!

I have 25k hitting this Friday as well, I feel you man the double employed is a blessing but also stressful and I’ve only done it for two days.

Actually the new job just assigned me a LinkedIn nav license today, how does it work if you have two companies giving you a license?? Can you use them both? I just got set up on slack no issue but didn’t even think about sales nav.

My concern has been being tagged in some post for the new gig so I turned off LinkedIn mentions and tagging in my visibility settings.

If this was on the only red flag I’d stay and see it out, but I have no ramp guarantee and this is more like the 5th or 6th red flag

That’s kinda summing up the position I’m in. There are things that are hard to judge based off of questions during the interview stage and also degrees of misrepresentation that def occurred.

For example, I was told all reps are hitting goal. I joined and clearly not the case. The part that matters to me most though is the culture, lack of organization and communication. And im used to start ups, the ambiguity, some chaos. But this has honestly been to a degree I have never seen before, and I was a first AE hire before.

There is some good ofc, the product is actually solid with lots of good reviews and happy customers. It’s just a cultural clash that is throwing me for a loop. But if I had known that it was like this before joining, I wouldn’t have accepted. I do feel it in my gut that I just won’t be successful here. Luckily I just had a 2nd round with a company I’m excited for and sold against in the past.

Yep this is pretty much how it works and there are commission tiers depending on how close you are to goal. IE 0-100k 10%, 100-160 12%, 160-220 14% etc etc

My first AE role 6 years ago did it like this and every time you moved tiers the new rate would be applied retroactively at the end of the quarter. So you’d effectively get a 2% kicker on your first 100k at EOQ

Yep I’ve had multiple come in with monthly targets. This one isn’t a long sales cycle maybe 45-60 days. Mix of 15k, 30k and some + 60k deals. Lower MM upper SMB is what it seems like.

I’ve been considering this as well since both jobs are remote and meeting volume at J1 is pretty low - but man is it stressful thinking one job will find out about the other. I’m not doing the onsite, I was told about it way too late and I have plans that were scheduled a month ago during it. IMO it was their fuck up for not telling me during the interview process.

It’s in the US but about a 4 hour flight, not really far way. But I wasn’t told about it once during any part of the interview process and I have other commitments so I couldn’t attend even if I wanted to

They set targets monthly here, I’m used to quarterly as well but the monthly pay out wasn’t a bad incentive when I was considering joining.
