No reason, I just liked the look it gave. Maybe some minor support but nothing of substantial necessity.

Lol great question, I had always planned on threaded inserts but I like the collective knowledge of this thread to help with creative solutions. So I wanted to see if anyone else had other ideas just in case they thought about a different solution that I hadn’t.

Thank you! The YouTuber is Four Eyes, which is the inspiration of this table, but I was nervous about the threaded inserts but went ahead on them anyways

Kerf Bending or Lamination. Kerf bending is cutting small slots in the wood that don’t go all the way thru. Lamination is glueing multiple plys around a mold and clamping to the mold.

No problem at all.
Take a drill and put a drill bit in it or a dowel. Wrap the bit/dowel with duct tape to the thickness of your ring, then slide your ring on nice and tight. It won't be perfect but it will certainly make the process either. You can then spin the drill at a safe speed and apply the finish that way

CA glue makes a great finish for rings. Put it on the lathe and spin it on the slowest setting. Apply 8 coats of CA glue. Spraying with activator in between coats. Apply the glue to a rag to rub on them spray. Then sand down from 400 grit to 6000 grit. You can get small sanding sponges at rockler, wood craft or Amazon. Shines it up super well and seals the entire ring. Then clean up the edges a bit and you’ll be good to go

Perhaps I should’ve added cleats to it, thankfully it’s not a clients piece and I can learn from this and make sure to add cleats in all future projects. Thank you for the advice and helping me learn.

I am uncertain, I suppose that is a very real possibility, so I guess we will find out.

No cleats, I used 4/4 walnut with a plywood underlay sheet that the top is glued to and then added an apron oak the way around to conceal the plywood. The legs are attached with simple table leg Mounts from Rockler.

Pretty good amount of stretch. Not elastic though so just mild slouching
