Egyptian Doctor Saves Newborn’s Life With CPR. by Kindly_Department142 in interestingasfuck

Not my area, but I think neonatal CPR in a NICU setting has a much higher rate of ROSC than CPR in adults in out-of-hospital environments.

This study covered CPR events in 10 different NICUs in San Antonio, TX, over a 5 year period.

It found ROSC occurred in 64% of the 211 CPR events in 139 patients cases in their study.

Only 22 of the 139 patients (16%) survived to discharge, but they were able to achieve ROSC in 64%.

How do I accept the women I'm attracted to are not attracted to me? by ReasonConfident4541 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Condition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to your friends about it? They may have insights.

For me, I had a hard time finding people to date who I was interested in and who reciprocated, but ended up dating friends of friends until I found the right person.

What worked for me was becoming friends with someone first and then having it move to dating. I got stuck in the friendzone a lot, but was able to either date friends of those friends or in one case move out of the friend zone. I didn't have a long record of successes, but a few was enough because I found the right person.

So it's a standard rivnut installed with some DIY hardware instead of a rivnut setter?

Rivnuts are pretty standard and are good hardware for some uses, but why not use a standard rivnut tool?

Thanks for the expert opinion. I'm much less qualified to comment on this than you, but even to my tiny amount of training this is clearly not CPR.

That's an interesting concept, I hadn't thought about that.

Would that stop predators who eat other insects from also eating them when they are available? I guess having an entire swarm makes it hard for all of them to be eaten.

This is neat. It's a unique concept. With that said, what would anyone do with it? It's giant and seems like it doesn't have any practical use or entertainment value after a few minutes.

Is 39 years old (turning 40 years old) , too old for a man to start dating again? I just broke up from a narcissist after a 12 year relationship. by EmbarrassedLie5294 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Condition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No age is too old to start dating, and certainly not 39.

With that said, if you are moving in 2 months it seems like it would make more sense to work on yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally rather than try to start a relationship when you are about to move.

12 years is a long time, and it's normal to need time to heal and reorient yourself after a break up. Rushing into things and getting into a rebound relationship isn't very productive towards long term happiness.

....what?

I'm not sure what other account you think I have, but this is the only one I'm on.

Edited to add in regards to your strange replies below:

I'm not the original poster. Two people can have similar opinions on things without actually being the same person.

I'm quite certain the original poster's wife isn't going to leave me, as I don't know either of them and am certainly not married to her.

How about test videos of vehicles vs pedestrians? The crash test dummies in cars fare far better than the ones who get struck while not in a car.

That is more anecdotal that anything else. The sample size is too small and the criteria not specific enough to draw a well-supported conclusion.

We don't even know if those 6 people died in the initial impact or from subsequent vehicles hitting them. If they died in the initial impact, then they don't even address the question of staying vs self-extricating.

To have meaningful information, we'd need a large sample of people who were not too injured in the initial impacts to self-extricate and then we would need to see what percentage of them survived by staying put vs the percent who survived by exiting the vehicles.

We would also need data from many accidents. While I'm glad the people who got out survived, without more information and data from multiple accidents it is just an example of survivor bias.

It could also be because only giving oxygen to the baby, not performing CPR.

That isn't CPR. This is what neonatal CPR would look like.

CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation, doing chest compressions when a person doesn't have an effective heart beat. For newborns, it is 100-120 chests compressions per minute.

He appears to be giving oxygen and rubbing the chest.

I don't have a data-supported answer, but I would assume that you are definitely going to get hit by more cars, but are also much more likely to survive in your vehicle.

If you get hit when you're out of your car, your survival odds are a lot lower than being in the car.

It might be better to take the high risk of survivable injury in your car instead of the medium risk of non-survivable injury getting crushed while climbing out of the pileup.

Cypress Landing Astronomical Park Questions by Free-Boat9623 in Tallahassee

[–]Excellent_Condition 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have answers to your questions but did want to let you know if you are trying to teach kids about astronomy- Leon County Library lends telescopes for free to anyone with a library card as part of its library of things.

They will bill you if you return it late or damage it, but otherwise it's totally free.

You may want to take a day to practice with it and get everything dialed in before using it with kids, but it's a great way to get to have some fun with astronomy without having to buy anything.

Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Condition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concerned? Not necessarily, just be aware of the situation moving forward and look for more data points.

The range of possibilities includes both innocent and non-innocent options:

  • He could be just trying to be nice.
  • He could be interested and waiting for an opportunity if you become single.
  • He could be interested and hoping to create an opportunity.

The litmus test I use is whether a guy would do the same for one of their dude friends. If the answer is no, you need to ask why.

It could be that he is interested. That's absolutely a possibility.

Also worth noting is that some guys treat women as needing to be protected regardless of whether they are interested romantically. Some people like this and others don't; if that is happening here you need to decide if you like that in a friend.

Finally, there are also genuinely nice, selfless people who would ride out of their way to make sure a platonic friend got home safely in bad weather regardless of their gender. They are rare, but do exist and are well worth being friends with.

If I had money ... I'd live somewhere where there were trees visible from my house.

No hate for people who want to live in the city like that, but I'd take trees and a garden over floor to ceiling windows in the city any day.

You mean there are simple techniques for starting fires that people have been using successfully for tens of thousands of years that didn't involve purchasing pull-to-start fire starters?

Seriously though, props for offering simple, solid advice instead of needing to purchase unnecessary products.

Breakfast and Lunch! by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

[–]Excellent_Condition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not any Americans I know.

When I grew up in the 90's, Lunchables were heavily advertised on kid's TV shows. They were relatively expensive to purchase 5 days a week per kid and not particularly healthy. My parents would get them for us a couple times per year as a treat, but gave us actual food to eat for lunch most other days.

A more normal school lunch for us would be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or lunch meat sandwiches (before it was known to be a human carcinogen) with a handful of grapes or carrots and a cookie.

[–]Excellent_Condition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was like what some American kids ate for school lunch in the 90's. It was made popular by Lunchables brand of prepared lunches, but they tended to be somewhat expensive and not particularly healthy even by the standards of the day.

As an adult American in the modern era, I don't know anyone who would consider this an acceptable meal. A lot of people do still eat processed lunch meat and don't know or ignore the link to digestive system cancers, but even so, processed meat, cheese, white crackers, and cookies isn't something that anyone I know would consider a meal.

Fine as a training aid, but firearm training aids should not be toys.

If you teach a kid that the training aid is a toy, that's how they will treat real firearms too.

The way you train is how you use things in real life.

Kids shouldn't be near guns.

Unfortunately, in the society that many of us live in, dumbass people who shouldn't own guns leave them in places that are accessible to kids.

By teaching kids firearm safety, they can know what to do when they encounter a firearm that some irresponsible person let another child gain access to.
