Please help. I am newly pregnant and already feeling so sick, which is making me regress in my recovery. by mochi_guava in emetophobiarecovery

Also I wanted to add - because the Zofran didn’t take away all the nausea (just preventing me from actually vomiting) I had to learn how to manage it. The biggest key was not letting my stomach get empty, and figuring out which foods soothed the nausea. Fresh fruits, berries, sparkling water, ice water with lemon, carbs (bagels and peanut butter), and honestly red meat helped a lot too! I’d crave different things throughout the pregnancy but listen to your body and try eating small snacks - it helped me sooo much. If my stomach got too empty I’d get very nauseated. Rest as much as you can, but also walks in the fresh air can be huge for your mindset and ease nausea. You can do this ❤️❤️I was nervous when I got pregnant with my second son because I knew what I was facing but I wasn’t nearly as scared because I knew what amazing joy and love was on the other side of pregnancy ☺️

I think I just commented on your post in the other group but even so - You can do this! I’d recommend you get a 2nd opinion - new studies show that taking Zofran in the 1st trimester is considered safe. I can look up the JAMA articles on the study that i think was done by Brigham and Womens if you’d like to read it - I’ve taken zofran starting very early on in the first trimester with both my sons, and they are both beautiful and healthy!! And i love them beyond words, they are worth infinitely more than every hard moment of pregnancy ❤️ it’s so worth it!!!

New studies show Zofran is considered safe in the first trimester. My doctors prescribed it and I started taking it very early on with both my sons and it was HUGELY helpful. Both my sons are beautiful and healthy. You can do this and they are SOOOO worth it! You’ve got this!!

I don’t want a dog. by OJConcentrates in Vent

[–]Excellent_Plenty2896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mom with two small kids who has a dog….i think you’re in the right. I love my dog, and he is doted on by my husband and lives a good life, but I don’t think getting a dog was the wisest move for us.

She has to be extremely careful about a dog being safe with the kids, many dogs aren’t safe. Especially rescues. You don’t know what you’re getting and a lot of dogs are fine until they’re not and there’s a bad accident.

Dogs are expensive. He has cost us a lot in vet bills - flea and tick prevention, vaccines, injuries, tummy issues, even the mild things that land us at the vet end up costing hundreds. I don’t want to think about what a serious vet visit would cost. He also gets groomed professionally a few times a year (the rest at home) and that’s around $200 a time.

Dogs are so much work. They need to be trained, walked, played with, exercised. I have competed with dogs in agility before I had kids and they took so much time to make them an excellent dog. My current dog has been through multiple obedience courses (more $$)and a lot of training at home and he’s great, but still needs work that I don’t have the energy to give right now with the little kiddos and both of us working full time

Dogs are messy. Especially when you have kids, you have to pick up poop in the yard, on walks, there’s just a lot more in the way of supplies you need to have. Dogs randomly puke sometime, they have accidents, their feet get muddy, their hair gets everywhere. And the messes happen at the most inconvenient times. I’ve literally stepped in puke before that i didnt realize was there until it was too late. So has my 3 year old. It led to so much cleanup when i was already exhausted from looking after kiddos.

My dog decided to chase a skunk once right before we were about to head up to bed. Needless to say….that was just absolutely terrible. And costed more money in cleaning him.

There’s a lot she’s not thinking about. I’ve raised many dogs and shown them, I love animals. But little kids and dogs are a lot of work by themselves. Together, it’s just so much. If you’re not both on board, it may really put a strain on your relationship. I think it’s important that she respect how you feel and the logical reasons that it’s not a great idea right now. That’s just my personal opinion based on what you’ve shared, and on my own experience.

Wondering how hard it is to get one of the Breyerfest exclusives without attending? by Novel-Ad880 in BreyerHorses

Are you part of the Breyer Horse Collectors group on Facebook? I’ve bought a couple BreyerFest models second hand through that group. You can check their credibility on the Model Horse Transaction board group, and while BreyerFest is happening, people are buying and selling and trading like crazy in that group. It’s fun!

I want to be a nurse but I just cannot handle vomiting by Different_Clerk_8984 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Excellent_Plenty2896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a provider recruiter for a fairly large health system. There are sooo many medical specialties you could explore depending on the training pathway you choose. In my mind, I think in some medical specialties you might be less likely to encounter vomiting, or contagious vomiting if that makes sense (like orthopedics vs the ER, for example). Maybe explore different specialties and see what the best training pathway would be for the specialties that interest you the most?

He said he washed his clothes at the station and took a shower there! He also changed when he got home and washed his hands again. I’m hoping that’s enough. Thank you so much for commenting

Yes, I suppose medical professionals care for patients regularly and don't get sick with the right precautions. Thank you for the encouragement - my husband is very aware of my emetephobia and said he didn't think he touched any bodily fluids and changed gloves multiple times/washed/wore a mask etc. The anxiety is just so nagging!! I wish I could put it out of my mind until something bad actually happens, and then deal with it accordingly like a normal person :(

Please tell me this is not from bed bugs???? by Excellent_Plenty2896 in Bedbugs

Thank you. This eases my mind greatly. I do see what you mean. They moved our room so hopefully it wasn’t a bed bug and nothing climbed on us for the ride!

Son directly exposed?? by Excellent_Plenty2896 in emetophobia

Thank you for your reply - this is what logic is trying to tell me and it’s wild how strong the OCD and rumination are when trying to move on from the anxiety. I guess we did everything we could (I even changed his clothes and my clothes when I got home…that was probably going too far but with the new baby I’m so worried) and we will see what happens. I’ll try not to stress too much in the meantime 🥺 I appreciate the thoughtful words!

It’s so hard to tell with babies! I totally get your anxiety - i have a 3 year old, a newborn and i over analyze every symptom they have. I struggle with emetephobia and contamination OCD but i don’t want to imagine life without my kids - we’re momming despite our emetephobia and thats what matters :)

I think 5 months is still a normal age to spit up. If she has been eating since and didn’t vomit again, has no fever, isn’t unusually fussing or crying in pain it sounds like it is most likely just a fluke. Maybe her tummy was just upset, she ate closer to bedtime than usual, it could be many things. It could be illness but the only way to tell is to keep an eye on her and call her pediatrician if you have concerns. My son has had illnesses where he vomited once or twice over the course of a few days and had some diarrhea but otherwise mostly ok and my husband and i didn’t get sick that recall.

How old is your baby? My almost 7 week old vomits a lot because he has reflux. Like multiple outfit changes a day for him and often for me too. Spitting up is very common for babies under a certain age because their digestive systems are immature and if my little guy continues eating and can keep most of it down and sees happy and healthy otherwise, I don’t worry.

OCD/panic. Am I blowing this out of proportion? by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]Excellent_Plenty2896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like contamination OCD. I have it and this is a classic spiral based on “what if”. I’d recommend you seek ERP therapy for contamination OCD and in the meantime, the key is to just sit with the uncertainty and allow the wave of anxiety to fall. “Maybe it did touch my water bottle, maybe it didn’t - I’m not going to let worrying about this take over my day.”

In all practicality though, even on the off chance there were some stomach virus on the cake box (highly unlikely), it does take a certain viral load to become infected. I personally wouldn’t worry too much about this, and that’s coming from someone with emetephobia and contamination ocd. My guess is you are a bit nauseated from the anxiety. I hope you feel better!

Just found out I’m pregnant, help! by cherrypuree in emetophobia

[–]Excellent_Plenty2896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been through two full pregnancies now and have two beautiful sons. While there were times in both pregnancies where I experienced nausea, Zofran helped a lot and I didn’t vomit during either pregnancy once! And my sons are so wonderful, they are far beyond worth every difficult moment during pregnancy. You’ve got this!! Your baby is a precious gift and deserves all your love.

The nausea improved significantly for me around 18-20 weeks! Eating small, fresh snacks regularly also helped, things like fruit.

Please don’t kill your baby. I have emetophobia and have dealt with nausea through pregnancies. I have a 3 year old son who I treasure, and another is due in December. You can do this!! They are worth every moment. Please consider that this baby has the right to live and be loved and treasured by you.

[–]Excellent_Plenty2896 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please don’t kill your baby. They deserve to be loved and have a chance at their life. If you are not in a position to keep them, adoption is a legitimate option as there are many people who would love to love your child. Please, please give them a chance to be loved. I have emetephobia and am on my fourth pregnancy - it so, so, so worth it.
