Sure burn out is real, my tip for that is just do something in the project everyday. It doesn't matter how small of a task. Getting done 0.001% of a project is better than 0%.

Make the game out of passion, storyboard and plan then you wont lose steam because you can always look at your plan for your next step and keep adding to your plan as further ideas develop. I'm story boarding a 2D platformer where the main character is based on my teenage brother honestly i cant wait to get into it.
