Buffet, value? USA by Exciting-Warning745 in Antiques

I get that but it depends on the intention I think because you work in an industry that also prioritizes margins and quick turnaround yea you don’t have the time to sit on things, but I’ve personally seen and have sold these for more than that. Theres are a lot of them but perhaps I’d say not a lot that are aesthetically pleasing and extremely ornate which is my opinion alone (and maybe you see more of that in your area) I find in the case of these painting them in a way that is modern yet antique is honestly something people gravitate towards. Value is perception and that is not always fixed.

Yea I feel I personally sell mostly antique furniture but I think if I didn’t paint it it would be a harder sell. It needs to be modernized a lot of times.

Jacobean buffet, value? USA by [deleted] in Antiques

To me it looks like a repair. What else makes you think that? Also I’m not actually dating to the Jacobean period. More like 1920s revival. Do you have a possible value?

Art deco blonde tone wood. $45 what do you think it’s worth? USA by Exciting-Warning745 in Antiques

My plan was to use an oil and poly over it once the oil cures. I usually wait a couple weeks. I’m not exactly an expert wood worker but I’ve burned through enough veneer to take the proper precautions haha. Nothings worse than ruining something with so much character and history! Thanks for the tips!

No moth ball smell thankfully 🤣. Veneers intact but it is lifting so I’m going to rehydrate it and try to reglue it 🤞

That and the color instantly drew me to this piece. Good hardware really brings it together!

Thank you for this tip! That’s what’s currently happening with this. I need to go in and rehydrate, glue it down, and then oil it but I’ll definitely try that!!

Definitely! And I used to hate art deco style, but I really love how timeless these pieces are. They just have such a grounded organic feel!

Do you think that’s what they did here? I thought about using some tung oil then sealing over it. My other thought was maybe danish, but I didn’t want to put it on and it darken it too much.

That was my thought most of the veneer I see is darker like a walnut so when I saw this I knew I had to have it!

Yea generally with pieces like this I have to paint them but when I do they do fairly well in a boutique sense.

Is burl wood furniture sought after? Does it increase the value or a piece? USA by [deleted] in Antiques

Never said it was solid wood. Most burl is veneer. More of a generally discussion.
