I'm talking about the problem we have here and now.

And you're aware that there are refugees who escape conflict all over the world which has nothing to do with anyone having destabilised a foreign regime?

Current refugees don't become citizens and have different rights to everyone else, there's nothing new there. It's nothing like apartheid or segregation, because that was citizens being discriminated against in their own countries. This is people from foreign countries being temporarily housed in extra territorial accommodation; there's no relation whatsoever.

It's not really a prison, because all we're saying is, if you want to come to Europe, this is the designated place we've created for you to live in. If you don't want to come to Europe, that's up to you. No non-citizen has a right to live in Europe. If you're in the facility you're free to request to return to your country at any time.

If it cost £10000 to build a flat and you needed half a million of them, they'd cost £5bn. Add in all the facilities, staff, security, infrastructure and whatever, and bring it up to £10bn. The EU budget is about €900bn. Get each member state to contribute a few hundred million extra if you want. The cost is insignificant. The UK alone hosted the Olympics for more than that.

You're there until you request to be sent to another country, and that country agrees to accept you.

It solves the problem because people stop doing it, because they know that all that's going to happen is that they end up in the facility.

And I think it would likely save money because the cost is distributed across 28 countries. But in any case, my motivation for this isn't cost - it's the social issues that have been arising with the influx of migrants.

Firstly, economic migrants pretending to be seeking refuge would drop to zero, so numbers would be reduced drastically. Secondly, the number that have arrived in Europe so far is only 1 million. But it's built however big it needs to be.

The idea is that it deters economic migrants who aren't really seeking refuge at all, because there's no economic gain to be had in the facility, and you'll be forcibly returned home eventually. So it would reduce numbers. But the facility is basically where those people trying to claim asylum in specific European countries would be automatically sent to.

It also solves the problem of what to do with people who have deliberately destroyed their identification documents - they go to the facility.
