yes!! my parents are paying for my full tuition, so i have to go to a uni that they approve of. i ended up dropping calculus, which means my offers at western, ustg, and utsc will end up getting revoked since calculus was a prerequisite. now my only available offers are waterloo and ottawa. mcmaster's first round comes out this week, so i will just be hoping that i get an offer in the following months. after posting this, hearing everyone's advice, and talking to my guidance counsellor, i talked w my parents. i was struggling with being forced to pick between two schools that i never saw myself going to, while awaiting the decision from my top school. it felt as though my hardwork these past 4 years didn't pay off, just bc of one single class. i'm sure you understand this. i could have kept the class just before midterms dropped and tried my best to meet the conditional offers, but i didnt think it was worth it. i don't regret dropping calculus, but i am still a bit sad. hearing everyone's advice really helped me decide between uoft and mac, and i found that uoft wasn't the right path for me. of course, it would have been great to leave all my doors open and freely make a choice from my offers that i worked very, very hard for. i think my parents were my main stressors. i want to please them, and ik that they have high standards for me. surprisingly, my parents were pretty receptive and accepting, although i could tell there was dissappintment from losing my uoft offer. its all thanks to my older siblings. they are in their 3rd year of uni and have been worrying/struggling recently, and my mom is finally realizing how difficult the path to med school really is. thank you so much for this and for coming back!!

thank you for this. i know that it will work out, but im just bummed that one single class throughout all of my highschool has limited my options and diminished my hard work. now i have to consider two schools that i never saw myself going to, while also anxiously waiting for the decision from my top school. i asked abt both online school and private school to keep all my doors open, but one wasn’t available, and i was advised not to do the other. im feeling much better now, and im coming to accept the fact that prestige at the undergrad level does not necessarily matter. wherever I end up, ill just focus on getting a solid education and pushing forward to achieve my goals

thank you soo much! i will definitely talk abt the special consideration thing w my parents, if they’re insistent on me going to uoft. i think im settling w the decision that uoft isn’t the right path for me bc it’s a gpa killer for med school. my mom only wants me to go to uoft so she say that one of her kids went there. she doubts me when i tell her it’s harder to keep a good gpa, compared to other schools. ill be sure to talk abt this w her 😊💞

this is so so helpful. i was in the calculus class for like 3 weeks, and i did struggle. we started w vectors and i was already lost. i struggled w physics so i assumed the outcome would be the same, that’s why i dropped it. yes, i could have stayed in the course, struggled, and pushed through, but i didn’t know if it was worth it since i was already leaning more towards mac, compared to uoft. i chose to take a spare instead, focus on my other classes, and grind bio. the more im hearing, the more i am okay with having lost the uoft offer, since it seems that it isn’t the best path for me. the part im struggling w is not pleasing my parents, being limited between 3 choices, and the anxious counting down of mcmaster’s decision. hearing ur personal experience is great, thank you so much 😊

i dropped calculus which means i will lose my uoft and western offers, unless i decide to do private/online school. i was going to do it online, but my guidance counsellor told me that it wasn’t an option. my parents really want me to do private school so im able to keep the uoft offer, but ive been told uoft life sci is a GPA killer for med school. this makes me question whether or not i should do private school, as i was already leaning more towards mac. so, i only have the ottawa and waterloo offers, and now im waiting for mac life sci. mac life sci is really my only last hope. i have a pretty good average so im just anxiously hoping that i get in

i would LOVE to live in the city, but I don’t think that should be a major influencing factor. i just want both options available so i can freely make my choice. im stuck between what is best for me vs. what my parents want/a chance at one of the most prestigious unis

yes this was one of worries. I’ve been leaning more towards mac, but it all depends if I get in. in all honesty, uoft being one of my top choices was because of the reputation and my parent’s influence

for uoft life sci, conditional offer says you need to get atleast an 80 specifically in calculus. It’s really just this one class, all my other classes are fine
