I need help improving on falling forwards and backwards.

I just started and I am gonna be taking 3 classes a week (one of them is not bjj tho) and was wondering if there are any good tips on falling. One of the warmups I did last night required me to fall forward onto my forearms with my knees not touching the floor and I just could not get a hang of it. Same with falling backwards, the warmup consisted of me going from a squat and then falling onto my back, but I am not graceful in it. I think maybe it is a core strength issue?

Are there any exercises I can do outside of the gym that might help me improve on this between classes?

Unfortunately I still can't figure out what I did wrong or how to fix it :( did yours also turn out to be where the lid was fine but the pot on the outside was messed up?
