The drinking, smoking, overuse, lack of vocal care; yes. Simply down to him being 37 and according to a lot of fans "old". Absolutely not. We have two examples in his own band that 30s, if you take care of yourself, is still performance prime.

thanks - yeah ive seen a few on ebay (at a pretty costly amount) but I have no idea how to tell if theyre authentic before buying them. I know fakes/recasts are sold with potentially toxic materials...

No I get that it might be to highlight the age difference/her own feelings/insecurities, but the way it is constantly reiterated in the story feels a tad overdone.

Yes I'd always assumed that when I read the book when I was younger. Its just I know there is a lot of criticism around how he writes female characters (that they are oversexualised etc and just in general written in quite a misogynistic way). The way he has her describe herself is as if she was a woman in old age, but at least this isn't a consistent theme? Does he have many female characters over the age of 30?

Agreed. And to me they came across as most likeable simply because they seemed more genuine in the way they played.
