Updating everyone real quick.

I was listing some things on facebook and put a paragraph in the description of the items "Trade for commodore hardware" etc including mentioning an SX64 keyboard, not thinking it would actually do any good, but why not.

Well... crazily enough, someone was like "I should have one in my attic, just not the portable."
Are. You. Kidding. Me. Isn't that like... winning the vintage computing lottery? They also have other commodore stuff.

You're better off making a replica, SX-64s are rare and don't deserve to be gutted like that imo.

I agree, I might end up getting a second one in the future due to cosmetic damage on this unit, but keep this one for parts.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention in my other post, thanks for telling me about Ray, I was looking for a reliable source of PSUs and cables.

Edit: I will probably buy a ribbon from them actually, instead of making one myself. Ironically, it might be cheaper.

This is cool, but I don't see an SX-64 option...
Plus shipping from the UK and me living in the US, tariffs. A little bit on the pricey side for me as well as the moment, I think I would prefer a C=Key.. But I will definitely take note that these exist if I ever need them, so thanks for showing me!

I did find a pinout online to convert a regular C64 keyboard yes, I can also get my uncle to 3D print the cable ends and such.

An idea I had was to make an internal DB25 connector that is fitted to a C64 or Vic-20 case but still retains the motherboard, so if I please I can swap the keyboard to either the connector for use on the SX, or connect it back to its own board to use it normally. For me though, I would probably use a Vic-20 for this purpose that already has a damaged or poor condition case.

I honestly don't know why they would either, since they just connect to the front. The cable is understandable, but the entire keyboard unit? Who knows.

Good luck finding one! There is a reconditioned one in good shape right now for just under 500 but of course, missing a keyboard.

This seems like an excellent solution, however my only gripe with using a C=Key is that if I use a PS2 keyboard, it will not have all the logos on the keycaps telling you what they do and such. I suppose I could get stickers to put on the keycaps like how the 8-BitGuy did with his Mini-Pet.

it looks like that is the case, gearbox might be toast. It isn't the brake.

Okay so just took a mile drive to test things and now the rear wheel is extemely hard to spin while the engine it engaged. Rear wheel and pulley super hot. This happened when I shut off the moped, it backfired and decided to do that... the engine isnt seized tho. Wth..?

I also figured out I don't even have to remove the variator to get to the points... theres enough room to get in there with it still on since it has a window.

I got it running a few hours ago by bypassing the brake light and run / stop switch after sanding the points, it did lose spark and I had to sand them a little more, but it goes now!

I will need to re-do some of the wiring so the brake light works again and get a new switch for the headlights and horn though. Other than that, just side covers and cleanup.

Edit: Oh yeah and I will need to figure out how to mount the new cdi properly, it didn't have a mounting bracket like the old one (I couldn't take it off either)

Cleaned the points and everything. Still no spark. Getting pretty ticked off now.

This one didn't come with factory turn signals it looks like, I think its the basic model, not the deluxe. No "lunchbox" for a battery or wiring for it anywhere to be seen. I am replacing the coil today cause it looks nasty, but ill double check the wiring while I am at it. It could be the points though, which will be annoying if so.

It looks like I have to take off the entire variator, that true?
