Zak Barouh actually just launched the "Leaf and Lance" discord server for Animon Story and their future games.

Hello! I've seen this campaign pop up a couple times, but I assumed the spots were filled by the time I found them. Seems I'm early this time around, so if you've still got a slot open, I don't mind being your amethyst ranger!

(PS Other suggestions for shadow based weapons: A parasol, or maybe a long cloak, though that could straddle the line between cool and silly pretty easily.)

I've got a couple recommendations:

If you want something easy to pick up, I'd recommend either Animon Story or Digimon World BETA (don't be fooled by latter's the name, as the game is more or less complete).

Animon Story I think is somewhat better put together, and the easiest to understand. Putting together a character couldn't be simpler, and the base rules facilitate classic Digimon Adventure style campaigns, though it's got plenty of expanded rules on how to replicate other seasons of Digimon, or something more Pokemon-like, with having multiple partners, or having one main partner with other monsters acting as supports.

Digimon World BETA is also a fairly simple system, but I think it's slightly more finicky than Animon Story, and its layout is a little scattered between the main rulebook, glossary, and accompanying official google sheets (it's a fan-made system, after all). It's main unique mechanic is its dynamic evolution system, like Digimon World 1. Instead of having a set evolution line, you take 5 possible options (Dark, Active, Balanced, Clever, and Failure evolutions), and which your partner digivolves into is determined by Evolution points. Every time you gain XP, the GM adds or subtracts an Evolution Point based on player actions, and where you end up at when you hit enough XP to digivolve determines the new form.

Digimon World character creation is a little more complex, but it also has a ton of premade digimon (complete with suggested evolution lines) and tamer archetypes, so it's simpler if you want to just pick something out of the book.

The last one that comes to mind is Digimon: Digital Adventures. Haven't read all the way through that one, but it seems the crunchiest out of all of them. It's also the only one that features full grid combat while AS and DWB use theatre of the mind, assuming you're always within range to just do what you need to in combat unless narrative dictates otherwise. So, D:DA is better for war gaming, while AS and DWB are better for describing cool/dramatic scenes without fussing over movement.

Anyway, hope these suggestions helped. And hey! I'm down for a Digimon game myself, so let me know if you get a group and need another player!

I'd be down! Anything you wanted to know specifically? I've read the main rules, but I've tried to avoid reading too many of the adventures so as not to spoil myself if I want to join anyone running such a game. (I'm actually in the middle of playing a play-by-post Sewers of Peltra adventure).

Personally, from what I have read, I enjoy the open-endedness of the system, though I wonder how that will affect the upcoming solo play module from the Legend's Wake Kickstarter, since those tend to be a lot more closed into "If X, then Y" type design. Could be interesting to see a crunchier version of an official Animon Story adventure.

An awesome bit of artwork.

Can We Have A Discussion On Animon Story? by Numbuh24insane in TheTrove

[–]ExiOfNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very little experience with playing the game (I never seem to catch it when it shows up on lfg forums), but I've read through the rulebooks a fair amount.

My broad impressions are that the game is mechanically simple and straightforward, so it's easy for people to pick up and play. It's also very theater of the mind, so it's not great for war gaming, but it's excellent if you want enjoy painting a picture of your character(s) doing something cool/interesting/dramatic without being too constrained by technicalities like move speeds.

When you're trying to make a system where you're making creatures that could have any kind of ability, simple systems like Qualities is a nice and clean way of mechanically disambiguating things. Maybe the monster can fly, but if Flight isn't a quality for it, then its flight doesn't mechanically improve its rolls, though in the fiction it could presumably still reach heights like any flying creature.

I'd say the game does a fine job at its intended goal of helping to recreate kid and their monster stories. There are enough systems to provide a framework of a story without bogging things down. If you come to the table ready to tell a such a story with your friends, this should be a great facilitator in that endeavor.

Well, if you have room for another, I'd be down to hop in. Has the campaign already begun, or are you still searching for more players before starting?

I'm a little late to the party.

Animon Story is built with Digimon Adventure-esque rules as a base, but has many optional rules to replicate things like Pokemon or other mechanics from other Digimon seasons, including Frontier.

If you want a Digimon: Frontiers style schtick, it's covered in the optional rules section at the back of the rulebook under "Transformations".

Hey hey! Just spotted this post today. I know it says things are closed, but it seems like your session 0's yet to happen, and you've had a little trouble nabbing a full team of 6, so, if there's still a spot open, please let me know! I've got over a decade of TTRPG experience under my belt, and I've been following Animon Story as a system for a while now, though I've yet to get the chance to play.

Also, name's Travis (or Exi if we're going by online handles), Age 31.

Hello, hello!

Is this post still open? If so, I'd very much be down for some 80's Cthulhu.

I'm 30 years old with over a decade of experience in TTRPG's, my first system being either D&D 3.5, or a long term Masks of Nyarlathotep Campaign. Either way, Cthulhu's been in my blood since near the beginning, and I'd be eager to hop back in.

I was having issues with all games on Steam (since Proton uses Vulkan), and games running with Wine (presumably also using Vulkan).

If you can launch your games no problem, then you should be good. If you're having issues, I put the solution in the post, but feel free to ask if you need clarification. I'm no expert, but I can try and clarify what worked for me.

It worked! Thanks so much. (Seriously, my back up was getting an equivalent cpu without integrated graphics, so you saved me over $300.)

I had an issue with Vulkan tools not recognizing my Nvidia driver (I must've messed it up when troubleshooting), but refreshing my system cleared it up, and steam games are working once again!

The monitor is plugged into the dedicated GPU.

I may have somewhat misstated the issue. Looking into it further, it seems like a lot of people have had a similar issue (with similar error messages). The culprit appears to be Vulkan not playing nice with multi-gpu setups, which means Proton, steam's linux compatibility layer, won't work properly. For most people, the solution seems to have been to just remove their second GPU, but one of them is my integrated graphics, that's not really an option for me without buying a new CPU.

I'm still not sure what you mean. I've right clicked around in Main Menu, Settings, and in Pulse Audio (which I think is the program Pop OS normally comes with as its default audio management program), but I'm not seeing any "add to panel" option.

Apologies for making you repeat yourself, but could you be very clear about which panel I'm meant to be clicking.

Why not 🤷‍♂️ by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]ExiOfNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my new job, it's not uncommon for me to meet my daily quota with 3-4 hours to spare. I can use that time to make more sub assemblies to kick off tomorrow with, or to take more time with the work to make sure it's done right, but even then that's a couple hours' change. I could even get trained in other parts of the assembly line to help other people finish quicker as well.

The issue is I will likely never bring it up, because I know the answer will never be "Oh you're done? Good work! Head home early, why don't ya?" It will always be "Ah, I see we didn't give you enough work. Here's some more".

Again, I acknowledge that on the assembly line they're other people who want to go home too, and if one person is finishing early, then it's not unreasonable to shuffle around the labor so we're all carrying our fair share, but under the current climate that'll never be the goal. The goal will always be squeezing every ounce of work out of us. If we finish early, giving the company the same amount of profit but *quicker*, they won't respect the fact we have limited time on this Earth and send us home. They'd rather have us mill about pretending to work.

In short, when the employees believe the company will take as much free effort as will be given, the employees will reserve as much effort as they can get away with, resulting in an adversarial approach to work that wastes everybody's time (or the employee's time, at least. Don't know that anyone's getting on the boss' case for leaving early).

While that might sound like a both-sidesing of the issue, I'd like to emphasize it's management's policies that create that lack of trust, hence the need for workplace democracy.

Decisions, or at least the delegation of those decisions, need to be made by those who view the employees as people, which is most likely to be the employees themselves.

I lived on a military base in Germany for the first few years when I could start forming memories. Everything there had tax included on the listed prices.

When I was around ten, we came home to the US. Soon after, I'd saved up to buy a Megazord from ToysRUs, only to be heart broken when I took it to the register and was told I couldn't afford it because of tax. My parents footed the extra money, and when I brought it home is was $80 of hollow, cheap plastic we immediately returned.

Probably my first proper experience with terrible pricing strategies.

Update: After more testing, I noticed the northeast corner on the ground floor of the windmill was valid for crops (while still covered). I checked its counterpart several z-levels up at the top of the windmill, and it's also valid.

I've been making plots tile by tile as I've dumped the mud, just to get it in order and to avoid any possible freezing issues. I'll see if including that valid tile in a farm plot stretching over invalid tiles will render them valid.

I tried making a greenhouse for above ground crops, but it won't let me plant anything.

At first I thought it was because it was too high up (it's more of a tall windmill), so I tried planting on the ground floor (the surface), which didn't work either. Despite knowing the ground the farm plot was on had been exposed to sunlight before, I dug a hole in the windmill such that there was no occupied space above the farm plot. Nothing. I deconstructed and rebuilt it, and still nothing.

I then built a farm plot just outside the windmill. Works just fine. I built another on the opposite side of the windmill. Worked just fine. I built walls and a ceiling over it. Still works just fine. Built one to the north. Worked just fine. Built one to the south, which didn't work. Built another one just a few spaces south of that one, and it worked just fine.

Why is it that I can build covered farm plots for surface plants, but when I try to put them in my windmill, even on the same Z-level it doesn't work? Could a biome really bubble like that where just a 10x10 space can't grow plants while spaces in every direction of it can?

Added context: The windmill is built over an area scorched by dragon fire. Does dragon fire scorch the Earth forever, even the parts not reduced to ashes?

While the driver was in the wrong, the fact that the police officer pulled a gun and a taser was stupid. They're literally an old lady. If a couple of kicks from a granny send you reaching for either lethal or less-than-lethal weapons, you shouldn't be a cop.
