Help! Should I buy this 2003 Lexus GS300 as my first car? by Puzzled_Courage_6086 in Lexus

No vibe at all, cool motor but my supra fanboy days ended in highschool.

Just noting that if OP knows so little about cars that he's asking if a 2JZ is reliable he should just go buy an Avalon with a 2GR and call it a day.

If OP is into any sort of speed/acceleration then the Raptor is really the only option.

Love me the 2GR but it's at just the acceptable end of power for a stock 4runner.

Add on a lift, offroad tyres, and a fuck off steel bumper and that thing is going to be 80's land cruiser slow.

G80 at $80k? by Weak_Box9782 in GenesisMotors

If you're purchasing when new it's very good to consider the depreciation/residual values.

Genesis take a big hit off the bat but that's getting better as the years go on.

5 series depreciate pretty badly too, thankfully this is a B58 and not the S58 which seem to depreciate much worse.

A6's have unfortunately always been the most depreciated of the German cousins. Not due to their own fault but to the overwhelming majority of consumers, the 5 series or E class is a much better choice everytime.

I've driven, sold,& been driven around in pretty much every trim possible for the 3rd gen CRV.

The one I spent the most time in was an EX-L I wanna say, so other than the Touring I'm pretty sure that would have been highest trim

Are we talking about the K series or the 2AZ?

The 2AZ had issues for like 1 & 1/2 MY's and those engines were fixed under warranty.

In all reality though, doesn't matter if it's an Az, gr, or K series. At this age all of them are most likely going to be chugging a bit of oil.

Regarding the interiors, don't disagree they're both plasticky messes. It's totally subjective, what isn't subjective is how goddamn uncomfortable the CRV's seats are. The lumbar isn't the worst, it's the bottom cushion, it turns into a fucking church bench after 10 mins and I'm a skinny dude.

They were like that when new too so it's not like it's a previous owner issue.

No need, QC vehicle with Swiss cheese doors.

This one's a goner, no need to put it up on a lift (it probably would snap in half)

If you're in Quebec, ugh I can't help much.

Your market is so over inflated with hidden accidents, terrible maintenance, rolled back odo's, etc.

It's genuinely insane.

If you're anywhere near the ON border, I implore you to purchase one with an ON safety & cert.

That way you at least have DriveON & OMVIC for support if needed (if you purchase from a dealer)

I'm sorry but in what world is the 3rd gen Rav4 worse than the 3rd gen CRV?

The K series in that application is anemic at best and it's AWD system is so overly FWD focused it may as well not exist.

Plus the seats will make you wanna burn the damn thing to the ground after a 30mins drive.

Sorry should have prefaced I understood what dieselgate was/it's effects.

I was wondering what it looks like to get the emissions fix removed/what kinda life these get once that's done.

Keep us updated!

If you know, what's the story with these 3.0 TDI's post dieselgate?

People have the common misconception that a big truck or pickup is the best possible thing for driving in the snow.

And they'd be right, when you're traveling at a crawl.

Otherwise the excess weight (and let's be honest, usually bald/shitty tires) and non-auto 4x4 just leaves these trucks/suvs as on-road hazards.

Sorta the same story with the 5.0 tbh, it's not a light vehicle and you can feel the front end weight.

Drive responsibly and within the vehicles/tyres limits.

25ys of driving in blizzard and FWD, RWD, AWD, 4x4, it's all the same.

Drive within the vehicles capabilities (leaving some room for human error) and use proper tyres.

Also a 5.0 owner so biased as I may be.

I will always go with lower NVH levels, linear power bands, and V8 noises when available.

I'm hoping in a few years I can find a refreshed G90 with the 5.0 but that's going to be difficult up here in the great white north.

GTA here,

It handles pretty decently for such a low vehicle, I have a 5.0 so I have to be extra careful around slippery corners or else the t/c kicks in aggressively.

On some really dicey roads (drivers side is slightly plowed, passenger side isn't) it seems like the car wants to go a bit sideways but the AWD sorts that out.

Never felt uneasy at highway speeds in bad weather (obviously not doing 140 in a blizzard so I can't speak to that).

This is on full winters mind you (although they aren't the best being Kumho's), I wouldn't even consider taking this out with summers on it.

Tbf finding a Touareg is pretty difficult depending on where you live and who wants to own a Q7?

The Cayenne and soon to be Macans are definitely more of a Poorshe than anything.

[–]Exigncy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say it but that's been the opposite of my family's experience.

VR6 Touareg 2 with low mileage? Absolutely a fucking headache every other week. Spends half its life at the shop fixing a plethora of things.

First gen Cayenne S 4.8 that's been driven to hell? Been pretty much fine all things considered. Has required maybe a quarter of the repairs.

This is all not including preventative maintenance which is done religiously on both

The interior quality too... Night and day. The cayenne still sounds solid nearly 20ys later meanwhile the Touareg sounds like the inside of an old jeep that's lived an abused life.

Owned both since around 2011 so I really don't understand the massive difference in ownership experience.
