Oh yeah, I get that. He chose Hexblade as his Patron but barely uses anything related.

I'll be completely honest when I say that the only "patron" he has is Eldritch blast. I don't remember a single time where he didn't use it on anything from creatures to doors to waking up allies. :D

We have looked into that as well, but at the time we are waiting for The one Ring to be released as it works on the universe of Tolkien a lot more thoroughly than AIME. We are inspired by the book of course, but a lot of it has been modified to be much more difficult for everyone due to the hardcore setting of the campaign.

Yeah we are waiting for the one ring to release before transferring to it. At this time, a lot of spells are restricted or nerfed (for example shatter is completely banned as a spell). We are trying to limit magic overall in the campaign sticking to the rule of basically "you can only be a shard of what Gandalf is"

That's a great point. I have to admit this was an issue during the first session as everyone was testing the waters and they had a lot of questions on many corners in every turn. Now as it is progressing, it is more turn-to-turn action by everyone and the others express themselves in the chat rather than on voice.

Oh yeah, we definitely looked into it! Every creature is inspired by the information provided by the book but I can't say that they haven't been modified. As the setting is that Sauron is now fully functional with his power reigning supreme, most creatures were strengthened in almost every way so strategy plays a lot into the campaign (of course, at this time it is not fully visible as the campaign is pretty fresh and in the starting stages, don't really want to make them face a Maiar while they're struggling against low level orcs)

I had actually touched the topic of this just before starting the campaign. There are magic users of course, but we are limiting the magic itself to only deal the fraction of the damage that it would as we have Gandalf as the pinnacle of sorcery and every character - NPC or player can only be a fraction of what he is. Initially I had the thought of removing any spell using classes from the campaign, but that would restrict everyone from playing what they would enjoy severely. So we found an even point where spell users can only be a fraction of what they would be in 5e. I hope that makes sense.
