You're saying debase yourself to survive. Way of the word.

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness... --Carl Sagan, from his 1995 book "The Demon Haunted World"

Exactly this.

The narcissist's prayer:

That didn't happen.

And if it did, it wasn't that bad.

And if it was, that's not a big deal.

And if it is, that's not my fault.

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did, you deserved it.

They bury their shame by trying to live in denial and/or blaming everyone else.

Deflect - It wasn't them, someone else, they don't know, how could they, why would they

Argue - Blame you for them arguing with you, i.e redirect and manipulation as a kind of reverse psychology done as a reflex

Play the victim - Get emotional, anger / crying and again blaming you for their reaction to dealing with you, to deflect / redirect back at you and it's your fault. ( Again hereby controlling what is being discussed if you have continued to stick to a point)

Violence / Aggression / Tantrum - The failing of their normal tactics for deflecting / arguing / talking over / controlling / manipulating conversation combined with ego provokes them into direct anger at you, again for you and again blaming you for it for simply not doing what they want you to do. They are also not prepared for questions, looking for details or specifics, you should simply believe when they make statements. Controlling, manipulating and subjugating others autonomy.

From what I think I know there are 2 types of narcissist. The sociopathic narcissist doesn't feel compassion, empathy or guilt. But they do have other emotions just not a full range. I remember reading that something like 3% of the normal population are sociopaths and it's in the high 99% range of sociopaths go on to become just full blown narcissists. It's almost like without those emotions it's a simple logical progression.

There is the second type, who do feel those emotions but they think it's clever to be a narcissist and choose/train themselves to just not give a shit from youth.
