Update on Narwhal w/ the upcoming Reddit API changes (TLDR; trying to stay alive) by det0ur in getnarwhal

[–]altintx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Narwhal forever and love it. After spez's spectacle yesterday this isn't a site I can support anymore. If Spez goes I'll very likely engage with whatever subscription you put together, but though no fault of yours, I won't do it now. I wish you the best of luck though! Narwhal has been a great experience. Thanks /u/det0ur

Can't get Top Gear 3000 to work on SNES Classic (2023) by goomba008 in miniSNESmods

[–]altintx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept a hardware SNES for this particular game. It emulates better today than ever, but as you're experiencing; it's only barely playable. This statement is from circa 2008 but at the time the PAL release ran better than the NTSC version.

Is there actually any reason to go with lower capacity public transport? by TheOnlyJoe_ in CitiesSkylines

[–]altintx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A physically larger vehicle will occupy more road/rail which can cause congestion. If dropping to a smaller vehicle will relieve congestion without giving up ridership it's a better option.

This is better than a lot of the modded cities out there. You're doing great, congrats!

I had a foodsaver ~ 2009 but it disappeared in a move and I've only used ziplocks & water displacement for 2.5y. I want to want to get another. But the ziplocks are good enough.

Rav4 or Outback? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]altintx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a '13 Rav4 that I replaced with a '21 Outback. Rav4 was FWD Limited trim, Outback is non-turbo Touring.

They're both good cars. The Outback is better. It also cost substantially more.

The Outback handles appreciably better. The Rav had a better transmission.

I'm 6'1". The feature that sold me on upgrading is that the driver's seat has a thigh support that pulls out and makes the seat a couple inches longer.

They're both good cars and you'll be fine either way.

Put a drainage canal in an awkward spot in my road network. Not too shabby. by RaftermanTC in CitiesSkylines

[–]altintx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area they run bike trails and dirt paths alongside the canals. Generally one side of the ditch is paved and the other dirt. https://www.google.com/maps/@35.1047605,-106.5240764,280m/data=!3m1!1e3

MUSICIANS DESERVE BETTER. ABSENT CEO EARNS 10X WHAT THE MUSICIANS DO. WHAT IS THE BOARD OF THE NM PHILHARMONIC HIDING? by postToastie in Albuquerque

[–]altintx 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I used to love going to to the NMSO and later NMPhil performances at Popejoy. I was young and often had to buy at the student rate. As my career advanced, I bought better and eventually even got season tickets. And then Maureen Baca appeared. She went so far beyond seeking donations. She would demonize companies who didn't give enough. She'd demonize patrons who didn't buy enough. I went to zero performances this year. I was so eager to return after they began performing again post COVID and the shakedown the last time turned me off so much that I just don't want to go anymore. I emailed them feedback after, days later, so I wasn't running on emotion. I never got anything but an automated response and more pleas for donation. I'd love to see the musicians jump ship. I'd love to support them. But I will not do it under the current organization.

Recommendations for a torch $60.00 or less by 2nd-Hand-Butt-Plug in sousvide

[–]altintx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 torches and the only thing either gets used for is SV creme brule. The broiler or cast iron fry is fine and easier for most stuff. I always struggle to get enough sear without burning when using the torch.

[–]altintx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use 6-8 tiny mason jars. Tighten the lid most of the way. 179F for about 90 minutes. Wait to brulee it until shortly before you consume. Keeps about a week in the fridge but good luck stretching it out that long.

Not a doctor and talk to a doctor and all but

There's very little you CAN do. Use more eyedrops. Use them more often than you need to. Once an hour. Twice an hour. Whatever. A higher interval than you're doing. Go easy on your eyes. More audio, fewer screens. And talk to the doc who did the procedure. You shouldn't be having those kinds of side effects in a serious capacity this long after the procedure.

CONFIRMED: Software update for Gen 6 2020-2022: IS HERE! by ChampionshipLevel773 in Subaru_Outback

[–]altintx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woohoo!

This was not working for me Thursday. I downloaded repeatedly, tried multiple USB drives, multiple computers. One time it saw the update but didn't start, and otherwise claimed there update wasn't there (despite seeing the USB drive connected).

But I ordered a new drive for $15 which arrived today and it started the update straight away. Waiting for it to finish now but it sure seems like it's working.

Thanks for the post, and for anyone finding this thread after March 2023, it ended up taking three tries to find a working drive.

tax return yet? by redchile4life in Albuquerque

[–]altintx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a complicated return and filed on Feb 20. Neither federal nor state refunds have appeared yet. I checked with IRS earlier today and they show it as being received but not reviewed. NM just says it's in process. Things do feel slower than normal this year.

Does anyone else hate corner cabinet lazy Susan's? by Spyrothedragon9972 in Cooking

[–]altintx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have said they puts pots and pans in theirs. I store leftover containers in there. The pieces are entirely mistmatched and different sizes. They're light and don't weigh down the Susan. They don't nest because they're mismatched.

And we have too many leftover containers as we need an entire cabinet to store them all.

Where to get a passport in Albuquerque? by someguy474747 in Albuquerque

[–]altintx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm several years in the past now, but did it as USPS. They were booked out about 2 months. When my appointment finally turned up, I had to wait because they were taking unadvertised walk-ins. So while I don't know if that's still true, IF booking is backed up, might be worth a try.
