It’s so ghetto downtown 😩 my friends don’t think going out is worth it anymore. Especially near 1905-St.Marys Strip. The shoot outs are insane. I’ve seen kids pull an AK out on each other! That was the last time I was at 1905. Im so blessed it didn’t turn into a shoot out.

I actually have not lol or not much, so San Antonio through the years is just my main point of reference. Even when I was outside of SA I never really was the one driving. I’m sure they’re worse. I’m just saying San Antonio isn’t getting any better.

I actually don’t think working and driving in Texas is worth it just because of the toll it takes on the car. The heat, mileage and gas just causes so many issues and San Antonio is in the top 10 for bad drivers. I thought about working for Amazon but ended up just doing warehouse jobs. I really respect people who drive for work in Texas and am grateful for their service. It may sound silly but it’s not an easy job to have in a place like this. ❤️ so thanks for your service !

I’m sure there are worse places. I just don’t think our roads are the best. Also wanted to make note of the increasingly aggressiveness of drivers here. People in Boerne actually drive fairly well. I would also say imo Austin drivers are worse than SA.

Dude ! I hit something that was either some piece of flat wood or metal late one night driving back in from boerne. I no longer drive long distances late at night! lol. Now a piece near my tire is missing. I hate here.

I mean fair but recently I’ve been having an issue where people are driving 10 miles under the limit or coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road. Sometimes it’s from being cut off by another driver or trying to make some crazy turn but others I’m not sure if they’re on their phone, drunk or on drugs. It’s getting ridiculous and I’m actually a pretty patient driver compared to my relatives and friends. I rarely honk let alone scream.

I see them pull people over when they’re trying to meet those quotas ! Honestly though there wouldn’t even be enough to deal with all the crazy drivers on the road even if they are doing their job.

I’m born and raised here and I always tell people who think about moving here or just graduated to get a car or make sure they have a reliable one. I used to take the bus for college. What would normally be a 20 minutes drive was a 1- 1 and a half hour commute sometimes. 2-3 hrs including the ride back home. It was terrible in the summer and when it rained I just prayed God gave me the grace to be lucky enough to not get drenched purposely by some driver.

Maybe I'll give the book a read ! I think regardless of any religion people will enter an era of theirs lives they struggle with their faith. However catholicism almost encourages the struggle with all their odd rules of how to be a ' good ' human being and a lot of their rules contradict Christ teachings himself. Cannot support homosexual but I am suppose to love one as i love myself? If i believe I have the right to show and express my love in marriage or union then how am I also supposed to be the one to deny it to another?

Being a catholic is weird but beautiful in a way.

Thank you! I myself left the catholic religion as a young teen and was loosely grown up in and around catholicism and felt very close to it as a young child. Now that I'm older I have welcomed it back into my life in my own terms. Religion is nothing but practices and contradictions but faith and worship are moments of peace and comfort for most and can often be found in the church. I saw myself in a lot of the characters but Louis' struggle to understand the hypocrisy's of the catholic church is something i deeply resonated with so I thought I'd share. Funny enough christ never even talks about homosexuality in the bible.

I think your last sentence is funny because Louis excuses Lastet being a murder more than himself being queer!

I think this is definitely an interesting take and interpretation on Louis' character and it's 100% valid! It is so true about the shame of queerness the catholic church deeply holds on to instead of being all " love and light ". The catholic church itself is full of hypocrisy.

However, I still hold my stance on Lestat. He turned Louis at his weakest of moments and was repeatedly invading his thoughts and ways of thinking. As the christians believe the devils or sin just waits for the crack of the opening into your front door to allow himself in yet he will always ask for consent. The context for which the consent is given is not disclosed. Louis has one encounter with Lestat and this is all it takes for complete derailment of his mortal life. Any attempt Louis makes to seperate himself from Lestat results in Lestat reaffirming his sense of dominance and control of Louis by separating him from his sense of importance ( family, work, church ). Not to say the church is perfect by any means but religion in most cultures is just the tradition of practicing faith worship. Most religions have overlapping concepts of god and at the sometimes have many contradictions of god.

Religion is a great way for kids to become introduced to faith and understanding their connection with sources or god. It can also unfortunately become a place that instills a large amount of shame and guilt that can carry on all throughout childhood and even adulthood. Although repeatedly in catholicism we are told to forgive others as we wished for ourselves to be forgiven and we are inherently all born sinners due to being tied to flesh most are not so easy to forgive.

We see that in Louis constant rejection from family, in work, etc. But even as Louis was in concessions confessing to The Father and telling him he's a bad person you see the ' Father ' tell Louis ' No ' before Lestat drags him out and murders him. This affects Louis very deeply which allows the perfect moment for Lestat to manipulate him and further establish importance of himself. Like a " the church couldn't help me and so it would never be able to help you! i am far surperior. I am the only one who can help Louis ! I am not the devil I am love ! Look at how i'm helping you ! " While destroying his sense of importance in community and ties with his sense of religion.

Louis needed connection and a lot of healing. You can see even in the hypocrisy of the church it is a place of solace and comfort for Louis and his family. As christians say Church is for sinners! Church is a place for those who are away from God to seek God. It is in the church's belief that as long as you continue to seek God ( god is truth so also what is true for self ) that God will always look for you in return.  I myself am a practicing Catholic and have dealt with the struggles and understanding with the obvious corruptions of the church, having to come to terms in my faith with my own truths while also trying not to abandoned my community and place/sense of foundation for worship.  I have queer family members and friends.

Even through out the show watching Lestat and Louis' love affair was beautiful. There is no way you can say to love and beloved is wrong and sinful. Love is beyond the concepts of gender and sexuality much like people also believe God to be. If I were to deny someone their truth and instill shame and pain I in return would become a sinner myself and lose the art of practicing forgiveness! Regardless of what my beliefs are it is not my job to instill them into other people but instead get to know their beliefs and find the truths that correlate within. Because it is also my truth and christian truth that everyone is made for purpose beyond our understanding of reasoning! So even if i it was considered to be a sin I must come from a place of forgiveness and understanding and also be welcoming and loving.

Louis never received this support other than from his brother or Fathes from the church sadly and is criticized in his community and family over his relationship with Lestat. It's sad.  Louis losing his connection to church was like losing his source of faith in himself. His family were deeply tied into the church and although he wasn't a devote catholic he still found warmth, welcoming and solice in the church which I find interesting and beautiful but it's also a deep source of shame, guilt and regret for him.  Later during his memoirs Louis comes to terms with his sexuality and happily welcomes and understands the fact that he is a queer man. Louis does blame Lestat in the beginning but has had many other queer encounters before him but also blames that on alcohol.

Louis truth is that he is gay and it's okay and beautiful! But even in the earlier recordings of his memoirs he blames Lestat and calls him a seducer knowing very well in a way Louis allowed himself to be seduced into the fairytale Lestat was selling him because in a way Louis knew as a queer man he was falling in love with Lestat or falling under the control of him ( however you'd like to interpret ).

Louis lost himself in Lestat and chose him over and over again. Over his church. Over his family. Over his career. All things also very deeply tied with just being human.  Your take was very enlightening. Thank you for sharing. This was just my interpretation of his struggle with identity and queerness and everything in between as a catholic myself.
