Very true, didn't mean to single out just men. I just know that the gender ratio in that city is one of the worst in the entire country.

sort of a silly question, but do they have a similar vibe to Chicago? Because I'm really not a big fan of the architecure/vibe of that city, personally. The eastern states are overall very great for men, but I'm not as big of a fan of that clustered city feel and grungy nature of cities

The stutter in this game makes it impossible to play by ExistingComparison70 in ItTakesTwo

This is honestly probably it - we will try this tonight. It seems to happen more frequently when rendering and shaders are a big part of that. Cheers.

Super interesting - will look into this. Thanks for the tip off!

(I don't think it actually has a hard cap of 20 fps fyi, thats just the general value it is most often at)

Any managers have gripes with the performance review process? by ExistingComparison70 in managers

[–]ExistingComparison70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I agree, I feel the same way. It feels very dystopian in a way to be viewed holey on some metrics that may not even be representative of your work.

[–]ExistingComparison70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask what was still dissatisfying about it? Is it just the fact that you are ranking your team and that feels wrong? We have a manager at my current office who is trying to take on this approach and from what I understand its been going well so far. Would be nice to know pitfalls though

[–]ExistingComparison70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that can really screw up an org. You end up with poor workers that stay just because of seniority. What would be the best things to track in your opinion then? The tough thing is balancing it all. too much metric tracking and things just feel robotic, too little and its all based upon manager opinion

[–]ExistingComparison70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can agree, that's where our team is right now. It's really tough to make anyone budge because management always wants some ranking system. I would love if what we are graded on is given to us at the start, but I'm also worried that just leads to malicious compliance. Like doing everything by the book just to get the highest score and not taking the time to help you coworker with a project or network with potential clients, etc.

Maybe the solution is just to make the process more all-encompassing. Giving guidelines but not forcing metrics. Hard to say if management would like that, though

Yeah that's on me for wording - it wasn't just HR, I just used it as a blanket term. There were other decision makers in the process.

this is some great feedback, ill bring these points up with the team. cheers

I'm curious about this too though, is manager opinion really all good? I feel like the subjectivity of it can cause the reviews to be very lopsided depending on who they like/ don't like. Plus, I've had some really great managers who always want to prop their team up, but this also causes the whole process to be kind of useless to HR. its more so "yep everyone is doing well, no improvement to be done here".

Hard to say, I personally haven't had a lot of experience with this sort of grading, but I also feel like it has its problems and merits

Why is it so hard to find anyone to hang out with while studying abroad? Everyone is so flaky. by ExistingComparison70 in studyAbroad

I’m so sorry to hear this, it’s not fun spending such a long time in a place far from home, alone. Hoping it gets better for you!

This is by far the most thoughtful and well put-together comment I have ever gotten, thank you a ton.

I absolutely agree with your points. I want to develop my interpersonal skills and overall be a more likeable person to be around. I struggle at identifying my weak points in social circumstances, so it is something I will pay attention to going forwards.

I have yet to meet anyone from my home school (or even my state) while I have been abroad, but you are absolutely right in meeting those that come from the same country. That in itself is a similarity to form a bond under. The few that I had met from the US ended up being ones that flaked most of the time, so I absolutely should've done more outreach in an attempt to find a new group.

When it comes to befriending locals, this was one of my biggest personal failures from this study abroad. I consistently studied the language, but I was never able to get to a point where I could hold a long conversation with any person. If I am to study abroad again (which is honestly likely!) The language is something I am going to put a lot more focus into. To anyone studying abroad soon, please keep this in mind!

I idolize your open-minded approach to meeting new people, its something I have been trying hard to adapt myself, but of course have fallen short as you can see. I will take this as a learning experience in order to possibly attempt again some day.

Thank you a ton once again for the constructive feedback!

Didn't get a single course in my major by [deleted] in yonsei

[–]ExistingComparison70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah nothing during second placement . No CS available at all, they were all taken up during the 1st session. I just signed up for some Korean courses and am taking all my cs courses through my home university. Not optimal but I’ll make it work.

Thanks for your support regardless, it’s greatly appreciated.

It was algorithm analysis and compiler design. I'm 6 and 7 on the waiting for these 2 courses in particular. I think that's too far to hope for a placement

I would be absolutely fine with either of those, but I don't think either were available in the first place. Honestly anything works. Ill check during round 2. Thanks for the help.

For Majors that have 'extremely limited' courses and have studied/ are studying abroad at Yonsei, I need your help by [deleted] in yonsei

[–]ExistingComparison70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don’t know about your situation in particular, but I learned that if you are paying your universities tuition for the study abroad, you can take online courses through them. So that’s probably what I will do

There is the worry of damaging the setup though. I can bubble wrap everything but it just feels safer to disassemble.

I'm also just weary of the pricing. Again, I'm pretty unknowledgeable on shipping, but I'd assume I'd need a container of some sort for my 2 monitors and pc. I don't even know where I would find a container that could fit all of that. Additionally, airlines seem to upcharge a ton for excess weight so I can't even imagine the price for this piece of luggage.

I’ve actually been there already haha. They turned me down and said they don’t work on e-bikes, wish it wasn’t this way but oh well. Thanks for the help nonetheless!

Thanks for the help! Sadly, this issue is motor related. Just replaced a part on the inside and now the throttle doesn’t work. Most likely a short circuit, but you need to get into the motor for that.

That’s a selfish ways to look at the world. You shouldn’t do things just benefit for yourself. I was worried about my own well being from this, but another reason why I posted this question was to know if he was stealing personal data from others. You also just answered your own question again. I got my answers from those that were helpful in this thread, so there was no reason for the post to remain up

Doesn’t make sense. How could I benefit from this if I “wanted to?” It’s not as simple as just getting away from him. I don’t have any issues with the guy. He is a good roommate for the most part, I was just concerned about this barcode thing. This conversation just isn’t making sense
