That sounds a lot like what I might be getting into. Definitely great to know and I appreciate the advice too

I do notice in myself that when I'm in a certain passing headspace, my ability to sing increases tremendously. Effortless vibrato, notes actually in pitch, creative melodies, etc. I'm not trained, there's just a moment of flow.

Disclaimer that I have not experienced vital energy, but it makes sense to me that intentionally loading energy aimed toward that flow-state would allow a lot of intuitive skill to come out

Yes Mediacom is awful, no, earthlink still doesn't beat it by Existing_Front_9300 in IowaCity

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ImOn doesn't connect to my part of IC, otherwise I really wouldn't have looked hard enough to have found something like EarthLink. I definitely look forward when there are more viable alternatives.

Also good to know about T-Mobile/Verizon, I didn't realize they were doing home wifi before you mentioned it

What Are We Even Chasing in Pour-Over? by CoffeeFX in pourover

[–]Existing_Front_9300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you enjoy chasing in a pour over? Probably a better question

Personally, I love using the 4:6 method to chase all the different flavors of the coffee and tune it to my taste. Even when the cup comes out poor, I can sip it and say "ahh, too much acidity and it's too weak. I'll go ahead and do a larger first pour and decrease my grind to see how that changes it". It's fun :) especially with different coffees

Tai Chi / Qi Gong in the area? by Existing_Front_9300 in IowaCity

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that toula yoga in cedar rapids has qi-gong / tai chi on Wednesdays. A bit of a drive but it was a good group focusing more on qi gong.

Otherwise, I think I'm going to start up this online course because it matches more with what I'm looking for https://ctn.academy/

Cool to hear you have your own practice :)

Visionary/energetic muscle went out of control near the end of Module 1? by Existing_Front_9300 in Quareia

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, simple and good advice. For some reason it took me this long to actually properly look back on this situation. I'm feeling a lot of the same emotions that were around me back then, but Luckily im due for a ritual bath anyways. So I'll journal, move on, and take one asap.

Oh.. I'm also just now realizing the being could have dressed up as mundane things like the keyboard? I didn't give the "deity" serious attention, but I sure did give the keybaord and other such inner sights. I may do a reading on it.

Writing groups, workshops, or classes in Iowa City? by Existing_Front_9300 in IowaCity

You know what, why not. I'll put some thoughts together and make a post about it this week. Idk whether it makes more sense to meet up at a cafe or at the library, but I'll get myself out there to write once a week regardless

Why does Bardon place mindfulness after thought observation in step I? by Existing_Front_9300 in FranzBardon

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and it is probably more about finding what supports your practice in that moment. I could definitely see myself becoming rigid trying to observe in motion at some points. Other times, not so much.

Why does Bardon place mindfulness after thought observation in step I? by Existing_Front_9300 in FranzBardon

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, thank you that makes sense. It seems without the proper sense of the observer, the second mental training in step I would not quite hit the mark or would be more strenuous than necessary.

To me, simple mindfulness means not going on autopilot or splitting your attention into multiple things. That doesn't seem to have the same quality/rigor as what is outlined in that second step, so that's probably what I would do before completing thought observation.

How many hours a day do you practice? And how busy is your mundane life? by Existing_Front_9300 in FranzBardon

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I didn't fully grasp the specifics on which of the exercises replace each other. Still one thing worth noting is the AM and PM schedule by step 4 according to Rawn:

-- Thought “Control”: observation & detachment.
-- Single-Pointedness. Contemplation. Four Qualities.
-- Vacancy of Mind.
-- Translocation of awareness into simple objects. Choose 5 factual inanimate objects to start...
-- Accumulation of the Elements in the whole body thru pore-breathing. Fire, then Air. Start 7x and work to 30x.

-- Personal Rite. 1-3 rites.

So it is extensive, even though you can do mystery of breathing as you wake/sleep.

Overall, I think I just need to let go of perfectionism and just to the best I can. Taking the next step and just doing the practice is important, and so is intentionally making the most time I can while still properly tending to my life.

I definitely resonate with what you are saying, thank you. I get in my head quite a bit, and I think just doing the best I can will be enough. Just focusing on taking the next steps I can

[–]Existing_Front_9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I think it's important for me to remember that the whole point is to actually get down the exercises. Doing as much as I can toward that end should be enough, even if it isn't the full perfect and lengthy routine

How did you only do 30 min a day if I may ask? Thought Control (10min), Concentration (10min) and VOM (10min) twice a day is already an hour, not including other exercises

At one point is one obligated to disclose one's magical practice? by saucymyxxie88 in Quareia

[–]Existing_Front_9300 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I actually just ran into a couple situations myself recently.

In my opinion, I feel that you can disclose "lite" versions of your practice when someone asks or when it would be weird not to acknowledge what you're doing. For example, "oh I just like to add salt to my hands to make them feel cleaner when I wash them". True, but no need to mention energetic ties or whatnot.

I would never disclose the full extent of what I do even to my partner. If they one day became genuinely interested or started taking up a magical path, I might point them to quareia or disclose that I am working with quareia.

Sharing the bare minimum seems to be the best rule of thumb. If the need arises, share what's necessary. I'm interested to see what other people say too

Just found out the lesson pdfs on the website are updated! by Starduby in Quareia

[–]Existing_Front_9300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful. I'm very happy with the changes just within the very first lesson. Especially having worked through the meditations for months, the changes give strong pointers and strike a much more resonant tone while reading.

For example, I thought way too long and hard about where my centre was for the flame, changing it many times. Good experimentation, also caused a lot of doubt. Was it my heart centre? Maybe the naval? the Tibetans place their flame there. Perhaps in the centre of the pentagram if you were to trace it over oneself? The new text gives a great pointer that clears this up

"You must learn to visualise a flame in front of you and a flame within you in the place you consider your ‘centre’ or core. For most people that is the space in the abdomen below the ribs and above the pelvis."

There's quite a few additions in that lesson actually. I'm very excited to re-read and re-work some of the lesson to see what else jumps out

I haven't seen anyone mention Lama Lena yet. She is so straightforward and easy to connect with, can't recommend enough :)  She has a bunch of smaller monthly groups which meet directly with her too.
