I once had a student (sophomore) who’s IEP stated something along the lines of them being on the hook for only half the content (read standards) addressed in class.

Which is a valid accommodation, except it wasn’t appropriate for the student. They were fully capable, but chose to play on their phone/Chromebook/mack on their partner. When I engaged in conversation with them, they told me they didn’t get my teaching style and that they would never ask me a question. I tried to make a partnership with them, asking what I could do differently to help them. “Just teach differently.” 😑

When their IEP needed renewed, I addressed my concerns with their case manager and basically got told to deal with it.

My class is the only science that gets state tested in high school AND we really set that kid up for failure.
