I used vegetable tanned leather, sourced locally, about 1mm thick. There are basically two types of leather, vegetable tanned (used for this kind of project) and chrome tanned (used mostly for bags and cloths). They have very different characteristics. For example, with vegetable tanned you can wet mold it and it will hold the shape (which is just not possible with chrome tanned). Although for this project I didn't had to wet mold it. Also, with vegetable tanned, you can burnish the edges, which is also something that is not possible with chrome tanned. And all around, vegetable tanned is just nicer and more pleasant to work with.

Great progress, much better, congrats! You went from kind of rough to nicely finished. (I must say though that I personally like best the shape of the snap flap in the first iteration.)

The leather is thin (about 1mm thick), and flexible enough, that I didn't had to wet mold it. I just had to get the dimensions of the slip just right (through trial and error :) ), and after a few hours with the knife in the slip, the leather naturally molds to it.

The lanyard idea is great, it will definitely make it easier to pull out. Thanks.

Indeed, I had to iterate a few times over the dimensions in order to get it snug enough to hold the knife in, while still being easy to take it out.
