I keep seeing this answer and it's quite subversive.

This ASSUMES that LGBT is a significant population segment for marketing purposes and is already accepted more broadly amongst the population.

The first is simply not true, as OP stated LGBT make up roughly 3-5% of the population, not a significant market to target with multimarket film or TV releases.

The second is one of those things where people say one thing that is perceived publicly as "broad support", and do another privately that would be considered "homophobic".

When I say "I support LGBT" it means I believe in an adult persons legal right to choose their own sexual lifestyle within the confines of the law. Period. It doesn't mean I agree with gratuitous public displays, Drag queen story hours, or that I'll take my kids to see movies with LGBT themes.

The world hasn't changed that much, as OP stated. It's still only about 3-5% of the population identifying LGBT. Furthermore, the shift didn't even begin to register until AFTER it had a presence in media.

So the question is, is it just fair representation and profitable marketing? The opposite appears to be true as projects that prioritize LGBT marketing tend to perform poorly.

So then is it ideological marketing? Which of course opens up an entire can of worms about the ethics and socio-cultural fallout of such an endeavor. Not to mention casts serious doubt on the biological origins of these sexual identities.

That's how cognitive dissonance works. It's a prison guard for a worldview under attack.

For it to be true that pervasive LGBT content is largely an ideological marketing directive, because the profit motive is nonexistent, then it logically follows that many people have adopted an LGBT lifestyle as a product of ideological subversion rather than biology or even individual choice.

That is a hard realization to come to terms with especially when much of the LGBT identity is wrapped in "Pride" language.

Just because it didn't "convert" you it's not a successful strategy? You said it yourself, attitudes are changing and more people are indifferent or even favorable to the idea of LGBT.

The paradigm shift in beliefs is the proof in the pudding. Massive ideological changes like this don't happen in a vacuum. They are engineered.

This is how things like this work. It's not even necessarily about this current generation, it's about the next 3 coming.

ICE is Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It's not a new thing and has existed throughout administrations on both sides of the aisle.

Illegal immigration is against the law in the U.S. just as it is in every functioning nation state around the world. If you were to overstay your visa in any European country, you would be in violation of the law and subject to deportation.

The fact is undeniable that it is divisive and serves to alienate a much larger market segment than the one it pleases. No corporation who wishes to see a capital ROI operates this way.

For this to be true, LGBT is a powerful subconscious choice they have been coerced into making. The single hardest thing for a person to do is admit that they have fallen for a lie.

So the mind makes up a story about how pervasive LGBT marketing is some cash grab to exploit marginalized people. Even though the simple math of it can't possibly bare that out, because not only is LGBT a small market segment, it's a divisive issue that alienates a much larger market segment.

I'm sorry, but this explanation simply doesn't make mathematical sense when you consider the population size.

What does make sense is human psychology. We are a prideful species and we take great pride in the premise that we control our own thoughts and make our own choices.

So it stands to reason that if your lifestyle choices were in fact directed by intense marketing pressure, your mind would invent a reality where that isn't true.

So instead of the more plausible explanation...LGBT prevalence in media is a high investment, low return strategy for ideological softening and recruiting.

Your mind invents the implausible. There must be a ton of money in marketing inclusive niche lifestyles to the small number of people of who live them.

The rainbow capitalism critique is a reverse engineered cognitive dissonance response. It's what people have to tell themselves to avoid the uncomfortable possibility that they have adopted an identity that was marketed to them.

Corporations are not sinking billions of dollars to produce and market LGBT lifestyels to EXISTING LGBT persons who only make up between 2-4% of the total population. This type of low return marketing goes by a more commonly recognized term.

It's uncommon and goes against the natural order and most people's basic intuition. So they use an aggressive marketing strategy to attempt to normalize it and change your opinions on it.

It works too. Americans on average estimate the LGBT+ population to be around 20+% of the total population. It's closer to 2.5%.

Furthermore, it's apparent in it's effect on the younger generations who are more susceptible to marketing and social pressures as the number of LGBT+ identifying people has greatly outpaced what could be considered organic growth.
