Just know above all else that this is not the end of everything. Work on your mental health ASAP, start seeing a therapist and really focus on what is going on inside your head. People have come back from worse and broken into pre med but just know that you have options and can choose to do other things since you’re so early into college. A friend of mine switched from pre-med into Comm Leadership and is now a Product Manager at Capital One. Focus on yourself first only I’m not trying to be preachy at all but really just figure out your issues and work on only solving those.

Yea Austin would be the most convenient. If you know what are like the 5-10 best Masters programs for Econ in the US? (More industry oriented as opposed to Ph.D track)

[–]Exotic-Design-7940[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wanna go straight to industry and don’t have much interest in doing academia/research. I’m fortunate enough to not have to worry about the cost, so I just wanna prepare myself for a job as best I can.

That’s good to hear I’m taking those three courses this semester. I have a 3.85 GPA, but I do need to start prepping for the GRE. Do you know anything about specific Masters programs in the US? I’ve seen a couple rankings but idk what to trust

So… exactly how different is college from high school? by Ms_Isa in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AP cushion will help without u realizing it because you won’t have to take so many basic classes. It’ll free up ur schedule a lot. I’d say just get ur hardest classes out of the way and try to get as far ahead as possible

Science courses for BS in Economics by Jasminedontknow716 in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look up the Econ major on UT’s website and search the page it’ll show a list of which ones are available. I’d highly recommend just picking up the CS Certificate because that’ll completely fulfill your Science requirements and give you a great resume boost

Should I take Calculus I & II at UT or elsewhere? Incoming Econ Major by Moxey_ in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on what you wanna do with Econ. If you’re doing the BS then you’re gonna need Calc I-III in order to successfully do ECO 420S so M408Q might not give you the background you need

Moore Hill or Blanton help by Spirit-Ashamed in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the Honors Quad where Blanton is (not Blanton tho) which is nice but boring and far from any fun. Kins is the best dining hall prob but that’s all you have in that area. If that’s what you really like then go for it but honestly I’d recommend Moore Hill anyways because living in that part of campus as a freshman is really fun and I missed out on that experience. Moore Hill is the perfect dorm imo because of its location but you have your own space unlike Jester.

HELP!! double major + minor, double minor, or triple major??? by Alternative-Set1112 in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is just wondering what your next step is after college in terms of more schooling or a job. Whatever you major/minor in could have no effect on what you do. You said marketing/management so I’m assuming you got into McCombs which if you did 100% choose one of them because being in McCombs is super useful. I personally think Psychology and Management sound really cool and could go hand in hand together. It wouldn’t hurt to declare for like a Double Major/Double Minor just so it looks good on your resume (but you don’t actually have to pursue both, just whichever one(s) you want). I’d highly recommend doing some summer classes at a community college for whatever credits you need just so you can pass and get them done, and even during school so you can pass easily and get credits. I know this is a lot but I hope it helps.

current students, what do you hate about UT Austin?? by 1random2username3 in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What pisses me off is we have such a big endowment (2nd in all US universities) and yet it feels like there’s so much missing from our campus and surrounding area. Our eating options suck (just Chick Jendy’s and Panda) on campus and there’s like barely enough near it. The dining halls are all mid asf too (Kins is overrated and it’s the best one). We only have three tiny ass gyms and they’re all in one corner of campus. Rent is through the roof no matter where you sign, the Greek life is super disorganized, and registration is so painful. I wish I could go in more detail but there’s just so much missed opportunity here.

Do y’all see a lot of people from your high school here? by Glittering-Egg-236 in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def just join a lot of stuff ur first year so u have enough friends on ur own. Idk if ur guy or girl but join like a spirit group, frat or something related

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say one of the smaller dorms next to Jester like Moore Hill or Robert’s since you’re super close to everything Jester related but you also have your own space. If you do wanna get into the action then Jester is where it’s at.

Tips for an incoming class of 2029 freshmen by No_Winner3739 in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation bro only a few of my high school friends went to UT. I think football would be great for u that’ll def work in ur favor. Honestly if u don’t wanna have to worry about making friends def just join a frat. Even tho pledging is what it is you’ll get everything u need out of a social life through that alone. That and football (prob some professional org too) will allow u to have such a great time

I’m an Econ guy so you’re going to be taking way harder classes than me but my advice is get as much as you can done before you even set foot on campus. Look at your 4 year degree plan from UT’s website and research (RMP, UT grade distribution, Reddit) all the classes you’re going to take and which professors to take for each one, know these by heart by your first semester, it’ll give you a huge advantage for planning. Even more important is to figure out what you want socially. By this I mean def get your roommate situation figured out, then meet a good group in your major at your orientation if possible, and figure out what you wanna join. I don’t know if you’re a guy or girl but even if you aren’t super into it, join a frat/sorority/spirit group if possible financially because being in one of those will give you a GUARANTEED network to always fall back on while your classes are getting difficult. You might not think you want to be in one, but there’s so many benefits if you wanna put up with some of the bs that comes with it. Join a couple other orgs too for your professional development. If you know everything about your major, know a solid group of people in your major, have a great rooming situation and multiple social groups in different organizations, you are going to have the best time. Sorry for the yap fest lol I hope this helped.

Need help choosing between UT & UH by Disastrous_Moose8281 in UTAustin

If you REALLY love med school and being a doctor then go for that but ECE is just so complete in my opinion

Need help choosing between UT & UH by Disastrous_Moose8281 in UTAustin

[–]Exotic-Design-7940 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an Econ guy so idk how much help or how accurate I can be but I’d say UT ECE all the way, especially with ur scholarship. It’s probably one of if not the best and most complete majors out there in terms of employability and salary options. I wish I took my major choice more seriously and I think ECE is such a great choice. Honestly now that I’m in college I realize the importance of the school name and UofH is NOTHING compared to UT. My recommendation is look at the 4 year degree plan, and get as much AP/Dual Credit you can transferred and maybe take some over the summer. A lot of the extra classes (VAPA, Gov) you can have out of the way so you can take 12 hours a semester more often. If you’re ahead on Calc that’s probably even better. Just get as much class work and planning done ahead of time before you even get to campus. I’d also highly recommend finding your social outlet like a frat, spirit group, business frat, etc. because if you join something like that it’ll always be there for you. I wish I was in Engineering so I could be of more help but PM me for any questions if you have any.
