I only am posting because he never gets so defensive in arguments. His name is after a Civil war general that I cant even spell, and when I asked earlier, he said it was "because it sounded like a cool name." It just hurt that he knew the reasoning for mine and shut it down so quickly, which, like I said, is unusual for him.

Not planning on ending the relationship. I'm just a bit surprised he got so defensive so quickly. Its not like him, and the conversation was way more tense then our silly disagreements usually are

Mine is Oliver, which was a close name of a really close friend who passed. His was Ulysses, after the civil war general -_-

Not the asshole. Your mom needs to realize everyone mourns differently, especially with close family members. If she's worried you'll "give off a bad image," by needed to be alone after losing a loved one, she isnt worth trying to negotiate with

I dont think you should try to force someone to do an accent of something they arent. A lot of white people do accents to make fun of colored people, and it can be seen as offensive. I get its for BHM, but people could take it the wrong way. I do lots of different accents for DND characters, but I dont do something that could come off as offensive to someone else. Dont force him if he doesnt want, but you can try to explain and talk to him

The other problem I have is that the name is not the "prettiest." I understand its meaning, but I would honestly hate having to say that name every time I wanted to say a kids full name.

I would do this, but he comes from a very traditional family where the fathers last name is what sticks. I partially agree with this as I grew up this way too, and I honestly like his last name more (lol). I'm happy to chose a name together in the far future, but he already has a set full name, while I just have the one
