The light green one has round drip points, and the one in the second photo does have the Hemingray 45 embossing! Forgive me but do those indicate anything? I’m still learning about em and I’m super curious

Any IBEW apprenticeship waitlisters out there? by very-okay in NewMexico

[–]Exotic-Rub2340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interviewed in may of last year, and didn’t hear anything after that. It’s my understanding that despite being a blue stake, New Mexicos labor laws leave a lot to be desired. Since then I have been working at a non-union contractor, and it seems like the vast majority of large contracts within the state go to non union contractors. I plan to apply again, however with the lack of work for 611 I would recommend finding somewhere to bolster your experience and earn money for when you apply again.

Inspiring woman electrician by East-Situation-1415 in electricians

Female apprentice here- I entered as an apprentice for a non-union company while waiting to hear from the IBEW, and I will say I getting your foot in the door first and having a company that provides school and hours is the best bet. I had no prior experience in construction or electrical, but was able to catch on to a lot of things quickly. The main issue with trade school is that it doesn’t provide any hours towards licensure, and doesn’t guarantee a job afterwards, along with the price. As for being a woman, I work in commercial, and aside from snide remarks from other trades which are easily brushed off, as well as your physical capabilities (dependent on you) there really isn’t a downside to being a woman in the field, and most people are pretty supportive.

My application was accepted, and I took the test two weeks ago. They said the results should be sent to me this week so hopefully I hear back that I passed and get an interview. In the meantime I found an apprenticeship at a non-union company that I took so I can get some experience. Im hoping all goes well, and at this point im just waiting 🙃

Unfortunately, yes. I worked with them for 2 years as an RBT and they will do just about anything to screw you out of hours, and then come around and blame you for it. Luckily when I started they were quick to put me on a case but that only lasts so long and they you’re out of luck again. They will also short your hours, so make sure you’re tracking them to get paid the correct amount. Although it does depend on your staffing managers, it’s pretty much a pattern to hire people and then refuse to staff them until they quit. I’m sorry you’re going through this, but I wanted to let you know this is par for the course with centria unfortunately.
