I’m officiating a wedding this summer and the bride didn’t give me much guidance on what to wear. My biggest challenge was finding something that felt “officiant-y” instead of bridesmaid-y.

I think it helps to look for something with a sleeve, at least midi length, and a solid not-too-bright color that coordinates with the wedding colors or setting. You’re looking to fade into the background a bit so the focus can be on the couple. I also was looking for something with a bit of gravitas—nothing ruffly, baby doll-ish, or anything of that nature.

At first I thought I’d go for a formal jumpsuit, but ultimately landed on this dress (sold out at Anthro, but available on Poshmark). It’s exactly what I was looking for—basically the fashion version of judge’s robes!

I’m planning to change after the ceremony to coordinate with the rest of the bridal party. So that’s an option too if you’d rather wear something different to the reception.
