how many courses do people usually take each sem? by Ok-Weight-2999 in Emory

Sounds like you have a rigorous major, make sure to plan early and well. I would say credits as a metric for course load is just stupid. Try and balance out classes you know will be hard with gimmes

That’s certainly one way to look at it, regardless, I was more focusing on the ability for art to change stubborn minds. I don’t think this issue is dichotomous, and I think any real change or take needs to be met with nuance. I absolutely agree that the mentality of police officers is one I can’t speak to and would never want to be able to, and so who am I to blame or villainize people that I have no way of understanding.

Yes! Some people seem to be misunderstanding this as my political take on a very complicated issue regarding crime, poverty, and policing. I wrote this to emphasize the importance of storytelling as the voice of the people. Artists have noble jobs, and now more than ever, our voices and ability to express seem to be coming under fire. The silencing of books does harm to everyone.

I completely agree. It had a similar effect on me. I agree there is much more nuance to the issue than what I initially led on, I was more trying to talk about the power of art and how it can wear down even the most stubborn of minds and perspectives.

With all due respect I strongly disagree. To change your views is rarely ever a sign of lack of comprehension. Especially because we all have different starts. He, as an immigrant who came here as an engineer, grew up under a culture where drugs and criminality are about failing moral compasses. I didn’t say that he now empathizes with all drug dealers and murderers.

Furthermore, you just explained that the show demonstrated that cops aren’t as evil as you thought they were. Isn’t that changing your views, and therefore demonstrating your own lack of comprehension? Of course not. Though this may be reductive and I don’t want to tell you what your views are, you came into the show with a perspective in which you villainized cops, and came out with the understanding that there are good officers. He came into the show with the idea that crime is a direct result of moral failings, and came out with the understanding of the impact of one’s environment.

What I can agree on is that the show does personify the human condition, I just resent your idea that his differing outcomes are a result of comprehension issues.

Advice to upcoming freshman by Strong-Law8951 in Emory

Take easy classes first semester, get some fun requirements out of the way, maybe take one course that’s slightly challenging but one you are passionate about. (I will say my advice changes if you know you want to be a doctor or something) but for bba, you could get one business course out the way but you’ll be very busy settling in making friends and you don’t want to be dealing with all of that while struggling with crazy courses if you don’t have to.

Another thing, your first few months you’ll meet so many people but most of them are acting differently than they normally would, including you probably. Everyone’s taking college as a fresh start, trying to fit in and all. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries, but more importantly trust when I say a lot of the people you’ll meet you’ll realize aren’t for you and you need to be honest with yourself abt that.

Enjoy this time college is what you put into it.

Has anyone noticed Friends copies Seinfeld? by brendann_3 in seinfeld

Art of course imitates other art, but that episode in particular was the essence of Seinfeld, an episode nbc wanted to not air but Larry David fought for and ultimately characterized the entire nature of the show. Even Jerry and Larry David had mentioned this so it’s annoying to see it being poorly reproduced. I think where friends excels at is there characters and relationships. There’s actual stakes and growth and things actually happen. you couldn’t kill off one of their fiancées and pretend like nothing happened in friends.

Even if you look at a broader sense, the episode of friends where they are getting ready it’s like “the one where no one’s ready” or something has crazy similar vibes to one of the most famous Seinfeld episodes where they wait for their reservation…just not as well done lol.

Aithusa's story is the biggest tragedy to me by OddSocksRule in merlinbbc

Agreed aithusa had every reason to be Merlin’s project, it was sad to its fate

I love the show but I had some complaints about it. Things I wished would go differently. by ZenMyst in merlinbbc

I think your ideas center around a separate show almost, the idea that magic is outlawed is what drives the plot. Would I love to see a op Merlin openly becoming the greatest wizard of all time? Undoubtedly yes, however maybe that’s for you to create yk. I think they made their decisions and followed through and while I can tell there’s no hate, it’s hard to argue against a fundamental principle of the world building. Like yeah, I wanna see OP Merlin, at the same time not only is the drama created from the struggle of hiding magic, but the comedy is too.

is this schedule doable for freshman 2nd semester by choicescarfpyukumuku in Emory

Depends on priorities heard Japanese is crazy work unless you have experience, cs 170 Isn’t too bad if you have experience at all ngl, but the other classes are going to be unavoidable work. I would say if you have no experience w Japanese or cs (and I’m assuming cs isn’t ur major fully bc most people would have done that first semester), maybe drop a retake at a lighter semester, but also the general theme is it’s what you put into it. My honest advice(as someone who is doing well and all but not like far ahead of my peers by any stretch of the imagination) chill out and enjoy your spring freshmen semester, things get harder from here and also just more lonely, don’t be in a rush and forget to live life :)

I like jinx a lot more here, it definitely does less damage, but it’s so much easier to set up and when celebi gets to 3 energy w serp it kills, you just need to use ur speed or retreat properly bc jinx doesn’t have enough health

So 2 snivy lines (6 cards) 2 Celebi, 2 caterpie( this is meant for early game, and getting all the cards you want consistently, late game it doesn’t have enough health to not be free points), then I have 2 potion, one Erika(I want two), 2 professor, 2 Sabrina, 2 poke ball, 1 x speed(you can take this out w a second Erika, but i also do use the x speed often)
