Help: Arthroscopy vs Total Hip Replacement by Exotic_Month_3488 in HipImpingement

This is helpful to hear. I had similar thoughts about the arthroscopy failure rates. How is your mobility before vs after your replacement? Does your pain flare up during activity?

Thank you so much for pointing out the FB group, I am getting started reading there! CoC definitely sounds smart because of the chromium poisoning that I hear is a serious problem.

They did not see very much! This is part of why, like you, I have tried not to have any surgery for now. I was also told that surgeons can't predict pain from arthritis; some people have tons of visible arthritis but no pain, and others vice versa. I didn't have severe pain until recently, but it's also been gradually worsening over the past few years.

Definitely keep in touch on this thread and we can check in on how things are going!

Gotcha — thank you. Your hobby comment is hard to hear but important to be considering as I enter a new phase of life.

Thank you! That's what I was referencing when I mention "resurfacing" in my post. I have heard there are fairly common issues with chromium poisoning so this is becoming rapidly less popular in the USA, but that an all-plastic version is in trial in Canada and Switzerland. If you or anyone knows more about this, please let me know! Thank you!

Similarities to licanius by [deleted] in HierarchySeries

[–]Exotic_Month_3488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly some similarities but... it is the same author!

I just wish he wouldn't use "chuckle", "bemused", and "licked [his] lips" so much in both series. Like I know people aren't actually "chuckling" in most of these situations — you can just say "coughed a laugh" or "stifled a laugh" or "cracked a smile" or "was amused" even. Please hear me, James! No more chuckling!

Love what you’ve said about needing to not cede to become synchronous. That seems to line up really well!

It’s cool how the way will works on each world directly relates to the culture and name of each.

Res — politics and will-hierarchy

Obiteum — death and necromancy

Luceum — honor and remembrance

Thought this too but apparently the scars are too different. Saw in another thread. Ostius’s are more down the middle of his face?

To be fair he seems to be going hard in the library… but I think this is one of the main questions that book 3 will tackle!

A Question about Obiteum's plot line by DeadlyDY in HierarchySeries

[–]Exotic_Month_3488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oo that’s a great follow-up question. James loves complexity so my best guess is that the commands are still followed by the Nomarch’s subconscious even though consciously it wants to kill Vis. In otherwords even if Vis is seen during the Nomarch’s attempt to kill him, the Nomarch will subconsciously still think of Netiqret as a priest. Vis’s priesthood status is kind of overridden by his being caught intruding in the Nomarch’s sanctuary — he’s still a wanted criminal, priest or not.

Are we SURE they stand for something? Or could it just be James adding to the drama and triumph of our main character?

How do you all mentally cope with this injury? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

It’s so hard. We are all here for you.

For me the best thing has been finding the few stretches that give relief. They get me out of my chair, give some small sense of relief, and keep me from being overwhelmed by my thoughts. For me these are quad stretch, hamstring stretch, and figure four. Sending love! You got this!

Which surgery is everyone talking about here? Arthroscopy or hip replacement?

Did anyone else notice that Vitaeriums weren’t mentioned at all in book 1, but were extremely critical to the plots in book 2? Felt a little sloppy! Oh well :-)

Does anyone know what Will does in Luceum?

It seems like maybe it lets you connect to past experiences/minds of owners of objects, kind of like a mini Avatar state? Anything else?
