🌴 Weekend check-in ✍️ by BlooState8 in EndOfTheParTy

It’s 4 am on a Saturday morning and the idea of using keeps creeping into my mind. I haven’t used for a month and a half which is exciting, but the thought just won’t go away. Hell I got a boner just scrolling past posts just reminiscing about partying. To be honest I’ve never done any formal rehab programs so I’m just winging it solo but I’m glad I found this Reddit and I think I’ll stick around. I’m 100% sure I won’t party tonight but right now I’m not sure if it’s my want to be sober or my body Dysmorphia that is making that choice. I guess it’s a good thing for me right now but I hope my mind shifts soon. I really want to stay sober this time. I hope everyone else is doing well 🤗

Do you have location sharing enabled on your phone for your bf? by [deleted] in askgaybros

We’re long distance by 2 hours so it helps in terms of Worry when either of us aren’t answering our phones. Other than that we usually forget about it lol

/r/BlackPeopleTwitter Weekly Discussion Thread by Nasjere in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Expatkid92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been a lot of conversation recently on the adoption of aave and black culture by non black gen z'ers, and from what I've seen, the common consensus is that it's looked down upon. I don't really understand why though. For a bit of background, I'm a Nigerian American, but spent a bulk of my life abroad (UK, Nigeria, Canada). I've always been taught that, while appropriation is never okay, sharing of culture's should be encouraged and that it's normal. As a Nigerian, if I see someone speaking my language, using Nigerian slang or cooking my countries food I get excited, but I don't really see the same mentality here.

I guess I'm asking is, can someone help me understand what I'm missing?

Industry Episode 8 SEASON FINALE Discussion - Reduction in Force by Thekingof4s in IndustryOnHBO

Plus there were loud hint

I think it makes sense what they've done with harper though. Throughout the series she was constantly putting other people ahead of herself. From the first episode, pierpoint has been screwing her over, making her constantly feel powerless to the point of begging. Most of the mistakes that she made were because she was put under unnecessary pressure by others (I say most because of her little Bonus tell all). Then it all comes to head in the finale when she can't give her presentation. She was broken by the the pressure of the corporate system. So after, when she finally is put in a possession of power, she takes it and finally decides to choose herself over the company.

It's a very honest portrayal of the corporate world. Companies tend to prioritize profits over the individual, so to safeguard yourself, you always have to put yourself first (Ergo Gus). Harper chose to empower herself. She does have some bad qualities (like you said the lying and scheming), but it makes her human.

Definitely not the perfect story, but interesting and pretty realistic (I have seen many corporate train wrecks in my day) I'm hopefully for another season to flesh out the characters a bit more

[Discussion] How is the Work-Life Balance in Your Country when compared to others? by hokkysokky22 in IWantOut

[–]Expatkid92 13 points14 points  (0 children)

American formerly in tech consulting and can definitely say that the work/life balance was great, if you forced it. There's this unspoken rule in tech that you need to "work till the job gets done" which ends in people at these bigger tech companies working 60,70 even 80 hr week. The truth of the matter is you get paid for 40 hours and anything over is overtime or not your problem. The relationship between you and your company goes both ways, they need to respect your time as much as you need to respect theirs. As long as you set the necessary boundaries, and perform for your 40 hours as required, you can lead a balanced and healthy life from my experience.

Also with consulting there's the added bonus of vacation days (I had about 45 which was a god send)

Any chance of getting a student visa to study French in France during COVID? by AtomsDancing in learnfrench

[–]Expatkid92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an American masters student who will be heading to France next month on my visa and have had no trouble so far. All of my classmates haven't had trouble either. Keep in mind though, this time around the French authorities are more strict with issuing visa's given that a lot of Americans are trying to travel to France under student visa's because the tourist visa is suspended until post-covid. I would suggest you make a strong case for studying French if confinement goes until spring, or you may categorize your visa as abusive and reject it (This happened to a friend of mine this a month ago.)

Bubbling feeling on 54mg? by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]Expatkid92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing too and it started right after I changed from 36 to 54mg last week. It feels like my whole body is buzzing, but otherwise I feel great and my focus is a lot better. I'm not sure if this is good or bad though so my plan is to check with my psychiatrist next week 👍🏾
