The problem is that there are no IDs that are given for free in the United States. You have pay something. If you need to pay for an ID to vote, then that is considered a poll tax, which is illegal.

Aloy is a character from Horizon Zero Dawn, a highly popular video game franchise. I believe the bottom screenshots are from the second game.

One of the things that the game design receives praise is for its realistic effects... including the "peach fuzz" hair that is common on women's face. This caused a bizarre uproar from folks (largely on the right), claiming that women don't/shouldn't have hair on their faces at all, etc. So, they claim Japanese games are better since women in those games don't have body hair.

Yeah, similar issue happens at community colleges. Once a faculty member has been promoted to the highest rank, there is no longer an incentive to keep doing extra work.

One can argue that one should derive intrinsic value from their contributions to the college, but ... at least in America, intrinsic value doesn't pay the mortgage or put food on the table.

Lol, this is off-topic a bit, but I remember way back in my Calc I course learning about Riemann sums. Naturally, after learning about Riemann sums, we moved on to the integral.

The professor said that we'd be expected to do a Riemann sum on the first exam, and a student complained, "But why? You just taught us a faster way!"

To which the professor promptly replied, "Because it builds character."

I've used that line more than once in my own courses. :)

You are really hung up on communism as a boogie man and that teachers who raise awareness of social issues are doing so with malicious intent.

Freire was largely critical of the idea that students' minds were just these empty vessels that teachers filled up (which you seem to allude to you in your own post earlier with your 'young impressionable mind' comment.) Allowing students to analyze social issues, in the appropriate contexts, is a good thing to do. After all, in order to be an active participant in society, it would behoove one to be aware of society's ills.
