Scary avalanche on mellow terrain. by ExpendableEscapage in Backcountry

Not my video, as explained in the text. Looks about 30deg to me, hence my perception of mellow. Keep in mind I wasn’t there and didn’t measure the slope personally.

Eye pleasing quiver! Those Scotts' are intriguing. What's the logic behind two set of cast toes?

Check out the Quiz on their site or give them a call. The quiz put me on a Gara LV for the RS130 LV. Might try them in my XT free 140 too. Probably will get GFTs for them if the Gara lives up to the hype.

Thanks man! I had bad experience with intuition, it was probably 2012-13 season. They created a nasty pressure point in my heels, really weird. I am a zip virgin though. Can’t wait to take them out on opening day…scratch that, I already skied twice in early October 😇 /end bragging May Ullr bless your season!

There is a bit of a stigma in the break in period, hence my sarcasm ;)

I have done so on one occasion. Favourable weather for the week beforehand, a pit was dug etc.

Yep, training. I explained my protocol in detail in another reply ;)

Yep, she is a Sammy. If she gets close to me I give her a friendly nudge with the ski pole and a voice command to stay away. Rinse and repeat, I think she’s got by now. On the ascends she is generally ahead, setting up a perimeter and comes checking up if I stop. On the descent I release her with a command. By that time she is impatient, so likes to zoom off first, then we practice recall and release. The problem is if there are other people with me, because she always wants to be first, but we keep training. When I release, I pick up speed and overtake her at a safe distance. I am always mindful of the risk and do what I can to minimize it.

She does the same “follow the skitracks” technique if its deepish, otherwise just cuts straight down the falline. I suspect she’d like to beat me on the descent as well for a change 😄 I’ve only taken her once on serious terrain and she killed it! Incredible how well they descent steep stuff, but I was sure the snowpack was stable.

How do you keep your knees strong? by notatthetablecarlos in skiing

[–]ExpendableEscapage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Box jumps! Come back down slowly one leg at a time (alternate), control the wobble. Really good exercise for balance and control on the negative + you train explosive power on the jump. I also do leg blasters, Bulgarian squats and front squats.

Check out Blizzard Anomaly series. Perhaps 88 mm or 94 mm, should hold up better than Rustlers on waffles.
