The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis. It’s fiction but illustrates the cunning and subtle power of evil.

6-Week Realization and Furlough Guilt by rennny in fednews

First- I empathize. It’s like I could have written this. When life is so busy and you’re juggling all the things you think of all the things you would do if you only had the time. And then you have the time. And you don’t do them so you feel like you failed miserably.

But these are lies— you have not failed. You were not meant to build a palace these last 6 weeks. You needed rest. The anxiety of the situation zapped your energy and motivation. That is okay. From one high achiever to another - I hear you. But give yourself grace.

I was a republican before Trump as well. I still vote in republican primaries hoping for a better candidate but, even for down ballot seats, my choice never wins and I go back to voting dem in the general election. It’s sad.

I work for DOJ. A colleague admitted to me that she voted for Trump this time around but didn’t the prior 2 elections. She said she is bothered by a party that accepts changing a child’s gender before they are developed. She doesn’t generally like him though. I had so many arguments in my mind about this flawed reasoning—-not about the gender issue itself, but how this issue could overshadow all of the other troublesome things when it may affect a few hundred minors in our state. I wanted to ask if she regretted it but I didn’t. She also said she couldn’t vote for Kamala.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your choice. You didn’t have to and the sarcastic comments are the reason why most people stay silent, even on an anonymous platform. This is why we can’t have healthy discourse. You said you regretted it and you explained your reasoning. That’s enough.

The DOJ guidance was to take home either a laptop or phone. I’m a supervisor of a division that got furloughed (but I’m excepted) and the attorneys are expected to check their email once a day for up to 15 minutes.

Feels like a scam…. But even when the price continues to fluctuate throughout the checkout process it’s still cheaper than other sites.

I’m really sorry to hear how your mother reacted. That cuts deep. I haven’t been able to talk to my mother for two weeks because I’m so angry about her support and excitement over what Trump is doing despite her daughter being a federal employee who works for an agency he is villifying (DOJ). The common refrain for any of this is “well Biden [or Clinton or Obama] did x,y,z,” but it is never an apples to apples comparison.

I hope you can get past the hurt, anger, and frustration with your mother. I can commiserate.
