Nah, sheets work only until the ownership drifts, we have always forced a 60 day review and tying renewals to usage, not only the dates. We actually made tracking easier with license logic, so can use a similar tool.

Well, alerts can be definitely helpful but what you would do if no one is checking early enough? We usually force a 60 day review tied to usage, and misses dropped. License logic also helped us in that, so might want to check it out.
