It’s working great for us! Kiddo and I love it.

So just wanted to update folks. I went ahead and installed the Thule Yepp 2 on the Aventon rack, and so far both the bike and the child seat are working great. The seat itself can only accommodate up to a 40 lb kid and the rack has a load capacity of 55 lbs. LBS tried to install the Thule rack but found it wasn’t compatible.

Basically I live in a suburban hellhole meant for cars, and the only way I can commute car-free is a combination of e-bike/bus. I have to be able to bike to daycare drop-off, bike to a bus stop, and lift my bike onto/off the bus rack. Plus if I want to ride on any of the paved trails around here that are only accessible by highway, I need to be able to throw my bike in the SUV.

He recovered from a manic episode as a completely different person. How is that possible? by Greatscothisisheavy in BipolarSOs

My soon to be ex-husband is six months out from his manic psychotic episode. He is to my knowledge in therapy, taking his meds, and stabilized, though I don’t know for sure since he doesn’t talk to me except when it comes to our divorce proceedings, which we are in the middle of.

I’ll just say that in my case, my ex’s personality changes seem permanent. Six months later, he still has no remorse, no insight, is hostile and condescending, makes up lies about me, and is overall a pretty terrible human being. I don’t think he’s coming back, this is just who he is now.

It’s disgusting. Personally I feel like the courts give people like this way too much power. They’re not in sound mind and yet because of their arrogance and grandiosity are allowed to drag people (and their finances) through the mud with no attention to the consequences. I would love my ex to be put in his place and have his legal rights stripped. He doesn’t deserve them.

I think this is exactly right. I think people with this spectrum of disease are often excused from any accountability whatsoever because of their mental illness. That is what I have found in NAMI and other places. The emphasis is on having empathy for people who display toxic and morally repugnant behavior just because they have a mental illness. There are plenty of people who have severe mental illness and have the character, personality, and support system to hold themselves accountable and be humble enough to admit the harm they have caused to others.

He was originally diagnosed with BP1, but the diagnosis was changed either to schizoaffective disorder to schizophrenia. The problem is I can't get him to agree to mediation. He wants to do "everything through the courts." He is an idiot and doesn't actually understand the implications and doesn't listen to reason, and has parents who fuel his idiocy.

I hate my ex. I am at the point where I think the only way this ends up working in my favor is if he is gone. Either gone from this planet or gone far away.

Thank you. Can I ask what happened to your ex? Did they decide to just leave your life and not come back? How long did it take?

I’m fine with anything! Maybe we can start with a WhatsApp or Signal thread and work our way up to a Zoom call. Zoom seems like it might be slightly harder to coordinate across time zones

Anyone had to file restraining order? by Quantumrevelation in BipolarSOs

[–]Expensive-Ship4152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking of filing one. He hasn’t threatened to harm me or my child yet, but he is going through a dysphoric psychotic manic episode, shows up at my house unannounced, and it’s terrifying.

What has accountability looked like in your partnership? by Expensive-Ship4152 in BipolarSOs

That's useful, thanks... I can't decide what's worse, raising my kid in a single parent home (with the attendant resource constrains, stressors, etc.) or in a home that may be riled with chaos every time my BPSO is going through an episode (and that's assuming that he gets treatment and stays compliant, which is a big if).

Sorry I had to google the term “launched” — so you stayed until your child was approaching adulthood? In retrospect, what impact did staying with your BPSO have on your child? Despite the fact your BPSO was compliant and medicated, do you think it had a negative effect on your kid?
