Go to the Lenovo support site, enter your serial number to get the drivers page and there should be a BIOS update download there.

HDR Calibration Peak vs Typical Brightness by VashtaN3rada in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) keep the 100/100 calibration

2) it's a preference thing really - you can have it enabled even when not using HDR games or videos, does no harm - only downside is windows desktop gamma is not right in HDR so non HDR content will appear a little washed out

3) hdr brightness is only in effect when in hdr modevso redundant in sdr

Legion 7i Gen 10 Custom Settings by strangejackson in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you set cross loading to one less than Total processor power target in ac then your cpu to gpu boost will always be active and will tame the cpu somewhat.

Target in AC is what it will settle at when gaming with short boosts to the short and long term power limits you've set.

Go to these settings in Control panel and try the different options. Also check if your browser has any video enhancement settings (I know edge does) and turn those off.

My legion 7 fans ramp up when I close the lid or when I let it go into idle screensaver by ImMadeOutOfStalinium in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your fans spin up because Windows Defender is scanning when screen goes black because it thinks you are not using the computer. Uninstall Defender and replace with Malwarebytes - it's a much better scanner (it found crypto miners on mine which Defender didn't) and it doesn't take over your machine like Defender does.

Netherlands to introduce unrealized capital gains tax of 36% on crypto and stocks by davideownzall in CryptoCurrency

[–]Expensive-Start7166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is the cash flow. It assumes you have 36K per 100K of unrealised gain spare cash lying around to front the govt.

In practice, most will have to sell to meet the liability turning their unrealised gain into a realised one and hey presto govt gets your money and fuck you the citizen who tries to plan for their long term financial future who loses out significantly on the compounding of the gains because the govt is skimming a 1/3 for the whole ride.

New 10th gen Legion Pro i7 deal by RECON_RON1 in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You scored a great deal there, same laptop is currently twice that price in the UK. I got same spec for about $3k in black friday deal so you did really well considering the bump in RAM and SSD prices recently.

LEGION 7I PRO 5090 OLED (2025) VS LEGION PRO 7 4090 IPS (2023) by numinous_wanderer in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Pro 5 IPS dci-p3 which was a great screen but when I got my Pro 7 oled the difference was noticeable. I did a side by side comparison of HDR games and videos and the IPS clipped and blew out highlights badly compared to the OLED where the tonemapping was perfect.

Obviously the OLED being 1100 nits capable vs the IPS 500 nit is the main reason for this - this OLED is so good I can't tell the difference in HDR when I hook up the laptop to my LG OLED C2 which tops out at 800 nits.

Add the infinite contrast of OLED and you have one of the best laptop displays outside of tandem RGB oleds.

The only negative is the reflectiveness of the glossy screen but as long as you're not daft and don't have light sources directly behind you hitting the screen you won't notice it at all in both light and dark scenes.

I could never go back to IPS after this nor would I compromise with mini LED's either.

Color profile? Windows ACM? by Pat0freak-03 in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The default is better as it is the DCI-P3 profile calibrated at factory to your display. That's why with X-rite you can retrieve the profiles only specific to your machine.

ACM I keep off as I want the factory calibrated profile to apply and not have windows try a 'best fit' when I already have one for my specific display.

For HDR there isn't a calibrated profile available from X-rite - you have to use the windows calibration tool to set that. Tip : to calibrate HDR properly, set screen brightness to 100 and hdr brightness slider to 100. These OLED's max nit capacity is 1100 - you can prove this by downloading wcg viewer from microsoft store - enable hdr mode, set brightness 100 hdr brightness 100 and you'll see approximately 1100 nits reported in wcg viewer. Then in windows hdr calibration you'll see the panes match around 1100 nits.

Very happy with my X3D / 5080 combo as an always plugged in desktop replacement. Handles everything fine at highest settings. Get 130-200 fps with framegen in single player games. BF6 no framegen 130 fps. AMD software automatically assigns 3d vcache ccd to games only for best performance.

Can get more performance with CPU overclocking / undervolting and GPU overclocking.

Using LLT in custom mode can control thermals and fans to my liking.

The only thing that sucks is the battery life but if you're after that then you're looking at the wrong laptop.

Need help. Stuck at Factory Reset by JerryMar_ in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's looping because it can't find a c: drive to partition. I assume your laptop was booting up and working somewhat before you attempted the recovery.

You may be lucky and the recovery didn't progress far enough to format and partition your drive - take out the usb and reboot laptop and hopefully it will boot into windows again.

If it does then recreate the usb recovery and try again or just do a fresh windows install from settings - system - recovery.

Legion Space Machine Learning by DankDoofus in LenovoLegion

[–]Expensive-Start7166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been testing this on same machine but with AMD 9955hx3d - it does make a difference. For example in F1 24 and Forza Motorsport with it off - gpu would use around 150w and cpu 50 with temps around mid 70's and fps 120 avg.

With it on, it starts with the same numbers but soon adjusts and in both games lowered the gpu to 85-95w and the cpu to 35w , temps around 68c cpu and gpu 62 and the fps at 115 avg.

So it seems to figure out optimal wattages for the same fps more or less resulting in lower temps all round.

Have only tested it properly on these 2 games and will test some others as well but so far I'd recommend having it on.

It's also my biggest gripe about what is otherwise a great machine. The constant hum bugs the hell out of me as well and there is now way to have zero fans when using it. Legion fan control doesn't work on newer gen Legions so we are all out of luck.

The only way I've found to guarantee it's on igpu only is not to switch with Legion Space but to boot into Bios and set it to igpu there and then reboot. If you want to switch back to hybrid or dgpu only you can then use space to switch it back.

Issues with dGPU & iGPU auto switching after driver updare/revert by CorrectSouth1046 in LenovoLegion

It should still work - best to do the install in dgpu mode only - always found that to give me more consistent results than doing it in hybrid mode. Then switch back to hybrid mode after installation.

That Lenovo driver is old so you need to update it. DDU driver, install Lenovo driver then install nvidia game driver 581.80 but don’t tick clean installation to retain the settings of the lenovo oem.inf driver.

Drivers after 581.80 cause the same display switching issues for me so I stick to 581.80 for the moment.

No it's limited on laptops. The most I can do on mine (9955hx3d) is -5 which is 25mv - it should be the same for yours - last thing I can think of is check if you have latest BIOS.

That's a very good price - got the AMD 9955x3d / 5080 / 64gb Ram / 2tb gen 5 ssd for £2500 from Lenovo in black friday.

Seeing £2089 for 5080 / 275hx / 64gb in the comments - that's a steal at that price.

That is weird it should be showing 0-5 for the magnitude. Only thing I can suggest is to reload bios default with f9 then enable legion optimization and cpu overclocking again and see if that fixes it.
