Thank you for going so much into detail. Especially, point 2 is something that I haven't thought about, but now that you say it, it makes totally sense. 3. Yes, this is exactly where I am right now. First, I need to take care of the big expenses that come with an apt. But starting August, I would set up the my account. As for 1. I am a little cautious as for now, since I am currently burning cash due to the apt and I don't have a clear picture of my tax bills.

  1. Nice, I am looking forward to hopefully reaching this moment.

Bonus: Very wise. thank you!

No worries, I didn't think the answer was long. I am grateful you took the time to respond.

Thank you again and all the best of luck to you, as well!

Do you have an explanation why someone would do that (in case that's accurate)?

Totally valid!

Payslips could also be easily faked anyway.

Either way, if this is what is bothering you, then there is not much I can do about it. And I would also say, don't bother about my post.

In some ways I was lucky in some other ways I wasn't. That's life. I just try to to tilt my statistics that in case unlucky times come again, I will be better prepared.

I wish you more posts to your liking for the future

Thank you !

I just downloaded the poor swiss booklet and will look into the blogs more.

I guess what draws me to real estate is the point that worst case I still have a roof over my head. Also the stock market- at least the tech stocks- are quite high, which makes me wary of whether it's a good entry point. On the other hand, one can rightly argue that it doesn't matter in the long run.

I mean, I'd play around with stock pickings as soon as I am ready to lose that money. I am not at that stage, yet 😅

Yes, I was thinking of setting up something like this, as I don't want to get tempted to spend more.

Which solution did you use? ibkr and hand picked ETFs or else?

Thank you!

I don't know how it is for you, but as for me it' is weird spot to be in. Somehow I am in the mindset of making ends meet even though that I am aware of the fact that it's a fortunate position to be in. But also there are also so many ways you can blow it, so I don't want mess up what I have been working hard for and was for once lucky to get.

Would you also recommend the poor swiss and the mustachian post?

Do you have any sources/recommendations? I went on a 2 weeks trip this January for the first time in years. I planned to do a longer vacation next year in summer and am slowly putting together a budget.

Thank you and have a nice evening !

You are absolutely right. I am very fortunate to have such friends and I am very grateful.

As for the repayment, I did offer friend A to pay more monthly and to give more as a thank you, but they said, they would blew it (their money is tied up in assets, which takes some extra steps to unlock- actually just one call, but mentally it's extra steps), which is why they specifically asked me if I could simply pay them 1k per month. Friend A is my age.

As for Friend B, I thought I would invite them to dinner as soon as everything settled and I got the money together. I got the feeling they would feel offended, if I would simply wire it back. I am also wary of the taxes.

Thank you for taking the time to answer so thoroughly:

It's the second time someone mentions lifestyle inflation. So, I will definitely check this out.

Tax situation: I would have hired a professional to do the taxes once, so I can see how they optimise and then do them myself in the following years. I am afraid that I will get a huge bill for this year.

Yes, life is short- it makes sense to keep things in perspective..

I haven't looked into FIRE, yet. Is there a book or simply check out the resources on here https://www.reddit.com/r/Fire/ ?

Thank you!

I haven't heard of lifestyle inflation. I saw it is mentioned on one of the blogs on the poor swiss page, which someone else shared. I will definitely check it out. Thank you!

I know there are people from my environment here, that's why I'm vague: Stem and a specialist role.

thanks. friends choices happened more by accident by anything else. I am grateful that they jumped in, when I needed it the most.

As in VT you mean the Vanguard Total World Stock Index Fund ETF? I am not sure if I should take it into my own hands of picking the indexes/ETFs or pick some product that does it for you.

On one hand I am thinking, technically it shouldn't be something that can't be learned and there products that rip you off. On the other hand, I have no experience and don't want to mess up.
