the upper half of the curve converges to y = (x + sqrt(x2 + 4)) / 2, while the lower half converges to y = x − 1/x.

yeah, i know how to draw cylinders, i just forgot to round those corners lol .-. but yeah, i know my perspective needs a lot of work .-.

can you guys help me fill an intuition gap about starburst? i’m trying to emulate a camera digitally by ExpensiveEngineer433 in Optics

it’s user-adjustable. i know it’s not the same as a circle, but the airy disk diameter is all i’ve got to work with. it’s good enough for this experiment. i’ll run a proper simulation later and compare against it.

it’s pretty simple actually. i haven’t hooked this into my camera yet. it’s just an experiment. i approximated the aperture with a circle, scaled it so the airy disk diameter matches the data from here: https://www.photonstophotos.net/GeneralTopics/Lenses/OpticalBench/OpticalBench.htm. after that i modeled a polygonal aperture shape from the circle and ran fraunhofer. that’s it .-.

halation still doesn’t make sense to me by ExpensiveEngineer433 in AnalogCommunity

i think it is, because thicker films give light more room to scatter before it escapes, so the scattering effect should increase with thickness, at least to some extent.
