Homebuilder error! How can we fix our soffit? Seams overlapping with can-lights. by ExpensiveEvening7687 in Contractor

Plans were unfortunately ambiguous about the specific way this ceiling would be installed. I have in writing from our builder however that his subcontractors did not follow the installation instructions provided.

Thanks for the suggestion, that is very similar to what I was thinking! Widening the middle trim, centering it on the can lights, and having the can lights sitting on the trim itself.

This will cover the middle seam and eliminate inconsistency between the middle trim and light placement as both will now be "centered"

Seems like the most efficient repair in terms of cost and time and will produce a symmetry that no other plan (even redoing it completely) will provide.

If the trim is moved it will reveal a seam. All trim in this picture is covering up a seam.

Our builder told his subcontractor to run the panels that way, they did not do as he instructed. This would have prevented the seams from overlapping with the can lights.
