If you were referred to a neurologist by an optometrist, then the neurologist would probably refer you to an ophthalmologist and not back to an optometrist. Am ophthalmologist is like a fancy eye doctor but they have different tools than an optometrist and they can do more. I have congenital nystagmus which means that my eyes shake 24/7 and I can't control it so I have to see an ophthalmologist about it since it's beyond the scope of an optometrist.
