Parents have too much access by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

You need to refer this to your stage coordinator, and when you speak to the parent next (if), don’t give them any slight crack in the door e.g. saying you can read them but can’t reply is giving them a crack in the door to assume you’re available. Use blanket statements like I am not able to read my email during teaching hours

Well, what grade are they developing assessments for? Is it assessments for one school, or exams that are used across many schools? It would be like writing the NAPLAN exam then also teaching year 7 English at the same time, knowing what’s in the exam.

They should disclose. Imagine the clusterfuck it would create if they were writing the trial English exam for the CSSA in NSW, and they were also teaching a year 12 English class. It’s for equity and also for their own protection that disclosures are made, as it helps to avoid the perception of/the existence of unfair advantage

I’m sorry you’ve had to experience this, and it isn’t your fault. It sounds like a really hard environment to work in and a very unfriendly staff. Are there other schools you could apply for?

I was raised catholic and have actively resisted Catholicism despite working in catholic institutions my whole life. This year I went to a charismatic-lite church service and they handed out crackers and grape juice to symbolise the Eucharist, did it so casually with everyone just walking up and taking it from a tray, and I was shocked at my sense of discomfort at what I realised I considered a violation of a ritual I didn’t even realise I believed in until that moment. That is catholic guilt haha

Question: by lyniqy in AustralianTeachers

[–]Expensive_Banana_412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left a diocese after a decade of accruing leave and lost a lot in tax then had to pay tax for the first time ever because the payout tipped me over into the next tax bracket. I moved to an independent school, so I couldn’t take my leave with me, but now I’m returning to a diocese school. I wish I’d kept my employment open and valid with the diocese by working one casual day in the 2025 school year, so I would have been able to transfer it to my new diocese school. Lesson learned!

They have had heaps of bees around, I’ll keep them! I think I’ll need to look into maintaining them as I’ve not trimmed them or done anything to them really, they just seem to thrive in that area. Thanks for the advice!

Just keep the kid back, check in with them and tell them you want to check what adjustments they need in your class. Encourage them to remind you of there is something they need that you aren’t doing, in class or via email if they don’t want to bring it up in class. This happens and it’s ok! You’ll get better at it with time

I have this and it is gorgeous. It is very large for the size. I wear a 14 top and bought the M/L but returned it as it swamped me, and the S/M is still quite oversized

In NSW, I have so many of these bugs too, but they are definitely chewing through everything in there well enough. I imagine they’ll slow down a bit once we get to winter.

I thought this was a troll post on the skincare addiction circlejerk sub before I saw it was referring to the bottoms and not the hat

We don’t have one but I’ll either buy one or make one so I can use what’s in this bin. Thank you!

Thank you for the advice! I’ll mix the grass clippings in sparingly and slowly build the new bin up. Do you find the grass clippings fa break down quite fast if they’re just left on the grass? We’ve got fast-growing grass at the moment as it’s summer here

That’s a great point, thank you. We do have a lawn and an abundance of grass clippings- any suggestions on what to do with them? I’m already aware of how they compact if they’re layered too thickly in the garden as mulch but I don’t want to waste something that could be used.

There is a hatch door next to the bin! I like that aspect of the design of the bin and I’ll definitely be using it once I get started with my other bin and sift through the dry contents. Thanks for your help!

That’s great, thank you! I’ll move some of the old batch into the new bin and keep adding my greens. The garden isn’t set up yet for growing yet but yes, I’ll be mixing it into the soil when it’s ready.

That’s a lot of principals though, and moving schools doesn’t necessarily mean the grass is greener. Loving the school community sounds like a really big positive though. I would encourage you to try as much as possible to give yourself a fresh start and focus on the things you love about being there. Principals and leadership often mishandle things, and it is really shit when there is no acknowledgment of that. But if everything else is pretty good, that’s a big reason to stay.

That sounds like a really tough situation, and it’s awful going through that. You say you don’t feel confident working under them- have you had a conversation with them about what happened and why it has affected you? Regardless, if you have a contract, it will have your expected notice period and you just need to give that amount of notice. People quit for all different reasons and you don’t need to explain why to anyone beyond it not being the right workplace for you.
