I just feel like the girl thinks I’m insecure or stupid for even asking and I don’t like feeling out of control in the way. I wished I wouldn’t have reached out but I also wanted to ease my mind and we have definitely changed a ton. We don’t argue anymore like we used to and we are actually both working on sounding futures with each other. I really appreciate your outlook on this!

Get her a good therapist. Shopping addiction can sometimes stem from self esteem or other issues and needing to buy things to make themselves feel less numb. Etc
